replacement stop/start battery

Featured Replies

I've read all sorts of things all over the place so wanted to get my facts straight before I get too far.

It's a Superb mkII FL 2.0CR DSG L&K with stop/start. I think I'll need an AGM battery and the Varta E39 (570 901 076) silver dynamic AGM looks like it fits the bill?

Will it need coding to the car with VCDS or is it a "simple" replacement?

TIA!

To "jonathan.tong" - I bet you need. If you have this two little cables going out of your battery, I believe you need coding.

I would also say that it will need recoding...

It needs coding to tell the ECU the battery has been replaced with what manufacturer ,type and amp of battery so that the cars Smart charging can do its stuff
Amy one with VCDS can do it for you..#

Greetings,

I've wondered about stop/start battery changing and coding. The replies here have ALMOST sorted it for me.

The almost is because my owners manual states:

Replace

Read and observe and on page 190 first.

The new vehicle battery must have the same capacity, voltage, current and

size as the original battery. Suitable vehicle battery types can be purchased

from a specialist garage.

We recommend having the battery replaced by a specialist garage, where the

new vehicle battery will be installed properly and the original battery will be

disposed of in accordance with national regulations.

Could it be that when Skoda say "we recommend.....specialist garage" they mean someone that can recode I wonder?

The reason specialist is suggested is to make sure you have the right sort of battery fitted and it's correctly coded. If a standard battery was fitted to a stop start with regenerative charging then A) the battery wouldn't last long B ) Stop start may not work C ) It has been know for the battery to explode

Greetings,

Thanks bigjohn. So when they "recommend that" they mean "it is imperative that".

In my PDF owners manual there are 100+ instances of Skoda recommending for or against something. Now all I have to do is determine what is a suggestion, what is a DO NOT and what is imperative for my own Health & Safety.

and yes - this has been written "tongue in cheek" but the battery scenario does highlight a potential problem for me at least as in my view a recommendation is a suggestion not a definite.

For the record, I went with a Varta E39 (570 901 076) silver dynamic AGM battery from Tayna. I took it to my local dealer/specialist who fitted, coded and did whatever else they needed to do. Everything seems to be working just fine again - for example the stop/start started working again on the return journey, having previously stopped working.

I think they charged me half an hour which I was happy with - and they kept my old battery which they also confirmed as faulty.
