Octavia VRS245 Winter Tyre Size

Featured Replies

Does anyone know or know where is best to find a definite answer on what  Tyre/wheel combo is recommended. Currently running a Volvo V60 that I need 215 55 16 for and was hoping if I bought new tyres they would go on new steel rims for the Skoda due for collection in March for next winter. Many thanks in advance.

I suspect very strongly they have to be 17" to fit over the brakes....

As above, I run 17" alloys with winter tyres, the size is on the inside of fuel cap cover.

The wheel/tyre combination offers the same rolling circumference as the 18s and 17s were slightly cheaper which helps.

16s are too small, my 17s fit quite snugly but nicely, you could do 18s but they're quite expensive.

Best time to buy winter tyres is in the summer, they're cheaper.

Should point out that those are for the vRS, the smaller 16 may fit a lower specced car.

No idea on the Octy requirements, BUT I was going to have to find this out for myself if I went for the Octy I had on order.

I currently have a Merc c350e which has wider rear tyres to front tyres and I bought winters for it in late 2017 - they're on the car at the moment. As its a lease car and due to go back in March, I'll be putting the summers back on to send it back. I was therefore going to research putting the winters on the Skoda and trying to work out which wheels I would need to fit the tyres on!

If you're interested, they're Goodyear UG Performance Gen 1 XLs - fronts are 225/50/R17s and rears are 245/45/R17s. They cost me £570 in Dec 17.  I'm probably not going to need them after the car goes back, so if they're of any use, let me know and I'm sure we can come to a deal. They had over 7mm of tread on each tyre when I put them back on 2 months ago, and I've only driven around 5-600 miles since then.

I run 225/40R18 Pirelli P Zero summer tyres on TD 7.5J x 18 ET45 offset aftermarket alloys and they are fine, but we don't get the depth of snow that Northern England, Wales and Scotland can suffer with. The tyres were only £75 each delivered from Blackcircles. During summer the 8.5J x 19" RS6 alloys with 235/35R19 Michelin PS4S provide  the extra grip I require.

205/50R17 89 on the rim 6JX17 offset 45 or 48

225/45R17 91 rim 7,5JX17 offset 51

225/40 R18 92 7,5JX18 offset 51

5X112 Centre hole diameter 57

Cheers gents should be good to go now, joys of going to live in Germany for 3 years so may as well get a decent set of winters and save the good wheels/tyres for the summer.

you will *need* winters over there, legal "requirement". It's not quite that simple, but the liability question is very different if you were "unprepared for the weather". Good ones are a recommendation; don't forget to set the speed warning. You can get into trouble for not doing it... it used to be a sticker and it's a good move to pick something which will work well with the speeds you're prepared to do, so check the classes.

Forces?

Plenty to choose from over there, and if still able make use of tax free too
