Skoda (dis) Connect

Featured Replies

I am having trouble getting Skoda Connect to work when using an iPhone on EE as a hotspot. I have an iPhone 7 Plus on EE and the Amunsden unit connects to it but the globe icon remains red and I have also connected to my wife's iPhone 6s on EE and the same (red globe). I then connected to my company mobile - Motorola (Android) on Vodaphone and it works like a charm.

I phoned Skoda customer services and they advised removing the car from my profile and then add it and generate a new code and try again. Did all of this and it worked for about 5 minutes and then stopped working again.

To say it's driving me mad is an understatement. Anyone else had a similar experience and know of a fix?

It has issues with EE. Not sure exactly what but if you Google 'Skoda Connect EE' there is plenty of reading material...

I gave up in the end. It was a faff to try to get it to connect. If the car picked up my home WiFi to start with it would then happily use my EE iPhone hotspot.

Now with carplay and waze, I don't miss the Skoda system at all.

You've already found the correct solution by testing your company phone. Bin your iPhone and buy a decent android phone. Apple products are just over priced garbage.

The iPhone hotspot automatically switches itself off after a certain time to save battery power so you manually have to turn it back on. Once connected, it should work...I just remember to manually switch it on whenever I get in the car and it connects no problem.

I doubt the network provider makes a difference.

Hope that helps.

Cheers,

Nick

Where as my old galaxy s4, hotspot can be perm engaged and never timesout. Works like a charm with giffgaff (o2 jr) sim. Kept in the car on the boot 12v socket. Gps on you can use google find my phone as a free tracker too.

Okay, tested my iPhone this morning with 4G switched off (as suggested in another thread found by Google - thanks @Kenai) and it worked like a charm. So it appears that EE 4G is the real issue here and not Apple products ;-) @ian_feel_keepin_it_reel. Anyways, all good EXCEPT I don't have the option of Google maps as suggested by Skoda website. Any ideas?

Good that you got it working!

I think you need to add Google Maps to the CarPlay menu of your phone:

If Google Maps is down where Audiobooks is then it won't be shown in CarPlay until you drag it to the screen.

Hope that helps,

Nick

Yes, there are enough threads on here saying that EE has issues with Skoda connect and that its not the flavour of phone OS

In my thread about 'is it worth me resubscribing to Connect' someone mentioned this was getting dropped and so new subs or renewals from late 2018 won't have it.

You'll need to be using CarPlay or AndroidAuto for Google Maps now, not Connect.

So when I mentioned Google maps earlier in this thread, what I actually meant was Google Earth. I've seen this on the skoda-connect site (https://skoda-connect.com/portal/en_GB/web/gb/faq/infotainment-online )but it doesn't appear to be an option on mine. Is it Columbus only? I have an Amunsden in mine.

This was Columbus only, but that feature has now been binned by Skoda.
