No boost :(

Featured Replies

Afternoon all! First post so I thought I best intoroduce myself here. I've had a selection of performancecars In the past and the current is an e92 M3. Unfortunately the M3 isn't really economical hence how I've ended up here! The run around is going to be a fabia vrs. It should give me decent mpg and still be nippy enough to keep me entertained.

I picked one up needing abit of work. It runs and drives but the car doesn't boost. Fault codes are p0299 and p0684. Short of whipping the turbo off to inspect it is there any other things that could cause this that I can check? There's no major smoke from the car when idling or under load, just abit of condensation, probably from lack of use. There's abit of oil around the turbo and on the engine too and an intermittent rattle when idling which occasionally screeches - this noise goes when being driven or when the car gets warmer.

Cheers ;)

Turns out it is the turbo which is shot! There's a massive amount of play in the exhaust side with a couple of broken fins too! The car was bought with it being an eco commuter however I do like abit if power  i've been pricing up hybrids which are too much for what I need. I believe I've found a like for like turbo which is 200 quid but is there any other cheap options? I've read about the pd150 turbo which is apparently a direct fit? Has anyone got a part number or a link so I can price this up?

I may aswell weigh up the options since I need a new one and the car will be mapped anyway

You'll need a new clutch and flywheel with more torque so before the madness overwhelms you just spend the two hundred and get it running and driving again.

There'll be plenty more bugs to iron out yet.

Cheapest is a like-for-like replacement and a generic remap. A torque light map could get you 280lbft and 160+bhp.

You'd probably need a custom remap if you play around with the PD150 or PD160 turbos. That can become a slippery slope.

Almost better to get a PD140 Jetta and stick a remap and a RARB on it.
