Diesel Fuel Pump Replacement

Featured Replies

Hi All,

Quick question - I have an 03 plate Skoda Octavia Estate that suddenly died when i was about to leave work (the car would not start and just turns over)

Called the AA out and an extensive diagnostic later he thinks the fuel pump in the engine bay has gone (No lift pump in tank)

He could draw fuel from the output of the filter, but not from the return of the pump, no fuel is being drawn.

There are no fault codes so i suspect a mechanical failure of the pump.

Question: Can the pump just be replaced, or does it have to have an expensive reprogram process done on it?

I'm at that point that if the pump costs me £1000, I'd be better off scrapping the car

Octavia Mk1

2003

90Bhp engine

180,000 miles on clock

TIA

I'd have  a quick look at breakers and/or fleabay before the car put down.  Our mk1 tdi90 (now passed to our daughter) is still going strong at 180,000+ and the mk1 diesels - especially the low-stressed tdi90 taxi motor - can run for many miles further.

Maybe also try a wanted post on here in case someone has one or knows where to find one.

Thanks for the reply.

I'm looking around for a part, but what concerns me is that it may have to be programmed to work with the ECU.

Does anyone know if it is a straight swap or not?

TIA

Even if it does need a diagnostic coding, theres plenty briskies with vcds, most happy to help out for beer tokens.. so theres a good chance help is only a short trip down the road via the local beer aisle once you find a pump ;)
