Track days anyone?

Featured Replies

Any of you doing some track day e mids or santa pod this year ?

I haven't done anything with the car to date

but since I got a newer octy but still got the fabia, its not needed as my reliable daily so much -
as I recently had to rebuild newer turbo + thought better off with new FMIC pipes than contamined old ones - just thought with it on 140k worth sending the car out with a bang and getting some more real track experience and have a laugh with the car?

Might need to prep up a bit more for that possibly a new clutch / FW though :D  Brakes been sorted recently though.

I've seen a few fabs when i've done track days(in various other cars). Even a couple where they were spewing diesel and didn't get flagged aha.

Wouldn't mind doing a couple of track days and possibly RWYB at Santa Pod if I can get the power down to see what it will do. Live near J22 M1. Nothing booked so far however.

My Dad fished in the lake years ago, forgot it was there, Donington Park handy also and nice to drive, particularly Craner Curves.

You talking about Fabia or Octy - I got both and notice you got mk3 petrol tuned too :)
Mine prob not as much power as yours but in the same ilk lol.

I think I'd rather take the octy to Pod to begin with as less chance of it getting bumped about, whilst Fabia more open for anything.
They got 3rd and 16th March Sundays for RWYB

Yeah the Octy at Santa Pod could probably do 0-100mph in 11.5 seconds with a good start. Last time I was there was 1996 in my mildly tuned BMW 325i Coupe ran a pathetic 15.4 second quarter mile at 91mph. Still beat a Ford Capri 2.8 Special who clocked 17.3 seconds at 78mph. How times change, now got a Skoda with almost the same power as 1996 M3 Evo (338bhp).:notme:

That sounds quick ! Worth a look, have you lightened any?
I know the guy with a superb 280 and some tuning was only getting 12 something ?
That said the superb is heavier and its hard to compare so...definitely worth a  try !

I'll join you with my Octy at pod if you like, you will be in front of me as mines surely only about 300.....
Think I'd be looking to ditch the spare wheel and rear bench at the very least mind :D I've seen how those Nova boys can humiliate with their stupidly small wheels etc and fully lightened so worth giving the car every bit of chance.

Be interesting to see how well these go though. As said for track I think I'd sooner beat my Fabia up for that but could probably use a bit more TLC before that.

That would be cool. Try and PM me when Santa Pod days are known and you can make it. Could save about 15kg leaving the spare wheel and jacking kit at home. Got an SOS button to press for assistance (don't know whether the AA would appreciate me having no spare on purpose). Need to weigh my RS6 alloys and wider  tyres to see if heavier or lighter than the original 19" Extremes I sold last year. Kerb weight is 1,370kg so expect it should do 13.0 second quarter mile at 105mpg terminal velocity across the line or thereabouts.

What was your terminal speed at the line for the 13.7 second run?

107 both 2nd and 3rd runs.
99mph on first run  but actually that was 14.0 ET which is wierd.
The 3rd run with same terminal speed actually was the 14.3

Did you have to change in 4th just before the line? Mine should be capable of 0-100mph in 11.5 seconds with a good launch, just gotta find the time to hit the strip and prove it.

I have videos to upload so you can work it out !

Changed to 4th quite a way before the line on the last run but that was the slow 14.3s one. I imagine it was later on the other runs, they got split up by stupid emergency facility on Yi cam so just sorting out splitting/joining video etc.

Did you run without a spare and all the gubbins in your boot removed. I would probably leave the boot carpet and rear parcel shelf at home to shave about 30kg off the kerbweight?:notme:

I agree but you can probably calculate the difference by fractions of a second and work it out?
So maybe I'd have got 13.6 instead of 13.7 ? I suppose that would have been nice for better bragging rights though.

Would have been worth it but tbh it was a very last minute and I was actually only meaning to go up with him, originally but he talked me into it.
Im more surprised he didn't unload his spare and rear seats.
With closeness of our times I bet he wished he didn't talk me into it now lol

He's spent 10k on the charger and was expecting big things, to be fair hes not a big car guy but thought it might do 10....I said be more realistic, be happy it you get anywhere near 12......I spent £300 with Oscarli lol.

I think the factors more significant are you and the driving as we see in my varience 13.7-14.3 My first ever drag strip run though.
