Key removed but ignitionl and engine still on

Featured Replies

Anyone out there had the mk1 Octavia vRS keep running with the key removed?

Dashboard alternator light stays on and only way to stop the engine is to stall.

Car was imported into OZ back in 2011 and as the MK1 was never sold in Australia the dealers are apparently having trouble locating the mk1 wiring diagram and manuals!

Questions:

1. Likely suspects that might be causing this?

2. Does anyone know if the ignition energies a relay that might be fault and no releasing?

3. Can anyone confirm the number of standard relays in the car noting the two in the engine bay (only additional equipment fitted was cruise control)

4. Any idea where I can get my hands on the circuit diagram? Ive tried Erwin.skoda-auto.c.z but I beleive the site is having payment issues and no email confirmations have been sent.

5. I did find a link on here were someone suggested that the fan controller module has the ability under fault conditions to keep the ignition energized if a relay goes down.

Not sure if 48oC temp had anything to do with it but it essentially failed on teh hottest recorded day in Adelaide in 100 years

Basically I'm at a loss and having had the car from new back in March 2004 and having shipped it to OZ its essentially immaculate and I'm loathed to write her off and fork our >AU$50K for a new vRS or vRS245.

Any help would be greatly received.

You don't say if the car is petrol or diesel but I do recall similar behaviours on older motorbikes when they were in need of de-coking (the carbon buildup around the valves and/or head led to an alternative ignitiion source). A quick look at park plugs should give you some clues as to this direction - look for dry black soot buildups.  In the interests of openness, our mk1 was a diesel so I'm working on previous experience on other vehicles here.

I do know there was a copy of the mk1 vrs workshop manual posted on the forum some time back, although I'll have to root about a bit to find the link.  I did download a copy at the time but again I'll have to hunt about to find it.

More when/if I find it ...

Sorry,

Petrol. I don't believe the mk1 vRS was ever available in Diesel. Not sure this is the problem as the ignition is still on after the car has been stalled and the key removed from the steering column.

I've managed to find and download multiple workshop manuals but no circuit diagrams. I did pay 7 Euro's to Erwin.skoda-auto.c.z but their website appears to be having issues and I've not been able to access the PDF yet

Here's the original forum post about the VRS manuals.

The latest update now puts them on Google Drive [tm] here.

I've remembered where my copy is but I'll have to dig out the drive and re-mount it. Let me know if you still need it.

I do know there are wiring diagrams in the relevant Haynes manual; my hard copy is now with our daughter (she has the car) but I can go look at it over the weekend sometime. I _may_ still have a downloaded copy that I happened to find on the 'net but again I'll have to go dig for it.  I'll let you know if I find it.

These are the PDFs I've managed to find this evening but no wiring or circuit diagrams :-(

I've found my copies of the mk1 manuals; what engine is in your VRS?

1.8T 20V AUQ petrol I believe.

Give me a few more minutes and I'll upload the relevant bits of the workshop manual to a share on my google drive.

I'm still looking for the Haynes stuff.

Faulty ignition switch?

I've uploaded 5 pdf sections of the mk1 workshop manual here.

Included are:

1.8 AUQ Engine Fuel Injection and Ignition System

1.8 AUQ Engine Mechanical Components

1.8 Engine Motronic Fuel Injection and Ignition

1.8 Engine Motronic Fuel Injection and Ignition (2)

Electrical System

I'll keep looking for the Haynes stuff.

Cheers Mickey,

Spoke to a Skoda specialist in New Zealand who supplies most of my parts (Generally cheaper than Skoda OZ) who had a few identical faults last year.

99% the ignition switch so I'll take a chance and get one ordered and fitted.

Can only assume the local auto electrician who claimed to have tested the switch and found no fault may have missed something noting he didn't have the workshop wiring diagrams at hand.

Fingers crossed but I'll now in a couple of weeks time.

Cheers for all the help.
