Can anyone recommend decent tyres for going offroad in a Scout?

Featured Replies

I use my Scout for going offroad, not more than about 5% of mileage and mainly on forest tracks. It copes quite well on the standard Hankook tyres, but I could do with a bit more traction in very muddy conditions. Can anyone recommend a better set of rubber, bearing in mind that most of my mileage will be on road? Thank you.

Let's see some pictures of your stuck Scout!

Haven't got it stuck yet, although I did have one close shave. I'll be sure to post a photo if/when I do bog it i.

Some Pirelli P7's.  They are next to f'ing useless on the road so perhaps they are better off it.

Look on sites like Mytyres and Blackcircles et al for tyres with the Snow & Mud symbol.

I currently have my Cold Weather tyres fitted which are fairly good at dealing with slight muddy conditions.

The rest of the year I use Goodyear Efficient Grip Performance which I have found deal with muddy conditions (we have several farms and a lot of house building around where I stay) extremely well.

Thanks to inconsiderate drivers, the grassy car park at my local country park gets extremely churned and muddy, but I've never had any issues driving through it.

Do you drive like me on wet grass? Idle revs and very delicate with the clutch.

I tend to just leave it in first (2nd if there is a reasonable distance to travel) and just concentrate on driving around the potholes and dips. The council insist on filling in the potholes with chucky stones instead of repairing it properly.
