Phone Charger and AUX Cable Placement

Recommended Posts

Just got a 2013 fabia estate - the aux in and cig lighter are not in the most useful of places - if I run cables from them to the radio/vents area where my phone is I end up with cables across the handbrake and gearstick.

The car does have an MDI port so wondering if I could use that instead with something like this? https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B078SNRSLP/?coliid=I3I02MVGL5U154&colid=1C0NXS4DR2D7J&psc=1&ref_=lv_ov_lig_dp_it

What are you guys solutions for running AUX cables and phone chargers?

Yes thats what I use, but I use one which is female USB, that way ANY phone can be connected with its own usb cable or simply plug in USB stick full of music.

I have a genuine SKoda one, the one above says does not work with Iphone, not sure why....will try mine tomorrow and see.......it was / is faultless with android phones.

Heres the Skoda one I have....As I say not tried it with Iphone, but will try and report back tomorrow.

Thats a good idea getting one with a female USB - will hopefully get more use out of it - and can use different cable lengths etc too.

Bought this one, as I also want to use 3.5mm input to it (Spotify doesn't work over USB) https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B075V7CZY4/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o00__o00_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

what sort of power is delivered to the phone?? My OnePlus 3T is a thirsty beast!

I already have the Skoda USB female plug (asked for it in place of the iPod one that came standard with my Greenie's MDI) but didn't think you could connect a phone via it.

Update...

Nope! Plugging my Phone in, via a USB C cable and the USB MDI adaptor (proper Skoda one from the dealership), the MDI didn't recognise my phone was connected, and just showed AUX like it does when I plug into the 3.5mm socket :(

I was after an option that meant I didn't have to also plug a 3.5mm Aux lead and trail that down to the socket next to the Handbrake. I could just play music and have Navigation through the MDI via the USB (which I know works as I use it in the home)

It did charge, but at a slower rate than the 2.4Amp lighter charger I have

  • 3 weeks later...

Just been out to the garage, and can confirm when plugging in my Iphone it says "not supported" on Iphone screen, it does charge it.

My sony android phone, "asks" to use as a MDI option, but then nothing happens, so that "may" need an app......not sure.....again it charges

My OnePlus 3T didn't even show anything on-screen (Android 8.0) but it did charge (albeit slowly)
