Fabia VRS low mileage slipping clutch

Featured Replies

im not sure if its my clutch slipping or the car loosing grip on the road for a few secs but once its warmed up and you change from 2nd to 3rd and boot it the revs rise then drop from about 3500 to 2500 and the cars just accelerates normally then. I thought it was loosing grip but its standard and shouldnt loose it in 3rd gear should it. Cars done 17K

Are clutches a problem on these??

If it's a grip problem the traction control light will blink.

Is it remapped / have a tuning box?

Also to find out if it is the clutch stick it in 6th gear and let the revs hit around 2000rpm, then plant it. If you have clutch slip it will be very noticeable then.

2nd->3rd in the current weather conditions if you are too aggressive it will slide all over the place. Lots of junk on the road, slightly wet, allsorts like that.

cars standard and i know about the light and it doesnt flash when i feel the 'slip'. I can get it to if i boot it in 1st or 2nd on wet road so i know when it wheel spin. Done the clutch test and it does stall but i was just wondering if its at very early stages of slip as it going into dealer for other warrenty work and i was going to get them to replce it if it is slipping. How do i stand regarding warrrenty? I assume if it contaminated with oil its covered. If its bad driving which its not i know i wont be. Just wondered if they have a problem with the clutch pressure plate going weak maybe?

Comments please

at 17k its deffo warranty, you can expect a clutch on a modern car to last 100k! My car has now done 30k, is driven by learners most of the time, (lots of bad driving, and clutch hammer!) and has a tuning box on it, an I have no clutch problems at all, still drives like new! your only problem may be demonstrating the slip to the garage, as by your descriptions, its not very pronounced yet, they may ask for you car to come in for "investigation"! which means they may take it apart and have a look......, just bug them, the earlier on in the mileage you get it sorted the better..... I had a clutch on warrenty on a saxo I had, when the duals were causing it to slip, they fixed the duals (they wern't fitted properly!) and the clutch no longer slipped (it was at 10k) but I complained that the slip for 10k must have damaged the clutch, and got one on warrenty free, even with no evidance of slip!

so my advice is bug the dealer until you get your car driving the way it should!
