Advice on nsr quarter panel and bumper repair

Featured Replies

Hi,

I'm looking for advice on bodywork repair for my Octavia. First time I've had to do anything other than a polish or smart repair to a car.

I put a dent and deep scratch into the near side rear quarter panel. The dent looks like it could be worked out. The scratch is deep, has stretched the metal and is right on the edge of the panel, so has deformed the crisp line. Work is going to be needed around the edge.

I also managed to scratch the bumper with several scratch lines.

One expense family trip into town!

As far as I can see given the car is over 3 years old there isnt any paintwork or bodywork warranty consideration in who / how repaired. Is that so?

I've hunted around for quotes to repair and got myself a few, as not used anyone before. These range from over a grand down to 350. The most expensive includes system reset. Is this really needed? I assumed the bumper would come off, rear parking sensors disconnected and once done it would all fit together and nothing needs calibration or reset - rear of car not front, so acc sensor not affected and surely nothing else! Is that right?

One repairer talked about VW using a special spring steel, so minimal heat to be used etc..  but no one else has mentioned. Are there any special considerations on having a repair done in this section?

Time to repair ranged from 1 day to 4. A day feels too fast for paint coat build up.

Any advice on how best to repair it well appreciated, as I plan on having the car for some time, as it's fantastic.

Cheers paul
