Help needed with ongoing annoying knocking ...

Featured Replies

Had an ongoing knocking since September last year. I’ve had the track rods changed, and the ARB bushes changed as well.

It has been less noticeable since ARB bushes changed, but it’s still there, seems to be coming from front drivers area somewhere.

One of the other rubber covers on the suspension needs replacing, as they are split (can’t remember the name of them), but I can’t think that these are making a noise.

I’m sure I’ve read on here somewhere about the bonnet rattling when closed. Apart from this any suggestions what it could be, it’s driving me round the bend when I’m driving!

Just had a look underneath the bonnet... there are two rubber disks that are on the “nose” end (not wipers end of the bonnet).

The one on the passenger side is nice and squishy. The one on the drivers side is hard, potentially this isn’t helping.

Any suggestions what they are called/part number so I can try a replacement?

'Stop buffer'

Part number 6Y0 823 481

They are adjustable, you can screw them in or out by a small amount.

Thanks, I did try and figure out earlier how they are actually supposed to screw them, but it didn’t seem very obvious.

Given a new one looks like it will be about £1 I will give it a go

you tried changing lower balljoint? or droplinks?

Maybe not the best to just throw parts at it but I know myself that it can be hard to find the source of the knocking! Is a cheap part but obviously adds up if you are paying labour on top

use 7zap.com to look for parts

They may have been done at some point since I’ve owned the car, but I’m not sure. It’s booked into the garage for a few weeks time for something else to be looked at, so I can ask them to look at the same time.

the knocking is a lot less than it was and if a £1 part from the dealership a mile away fixes it, then even better. If it doesn’t, well as above, it looks as though it’s about at the end of its life anyway, so won’t harm to change it.

Wench- I've always found  TPS ( vag  trade parts specialists) very helpful and reasonably priced.

Cheers, I’ve ordered it from my local dealership. They are just down the road from me and are pretty good for ordering parts in
