You can get a device that connects to your phone via Bluetooth and then transmits that to a FM frequency of your choice. The one below also has built in DAB so you'd get more radio channels than FM radio. The one I have powers off a USB socket, which I have plugged into the cigarette lighter and is a much more cost effective way of playing music from your phone and adding DAB functionality compared to a new stereo.

Hope that helps.

At least give us a clue what haedunit your car has ;)

A picture would be ideal.

Been using one of these (connected to Octavia mk2 Bolero) and it does the job: https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B07J9VD5FR/

Depends what you consider cheap, but I went for a Gateway Lite BT. At around £100 it's wasn't the cheapest option but I'm not a fan of FM transmitters, I wanted a permanent solution I could use seamlessly everyday. It's plug and play so an easy DIY install and works perfectly so to me was worth the expense.

I’ve got a little Bluetooth transmitter that plugs into the 12v socket it does the job for me

Also want a solution for my mk2 fl - has the columbus fitted at present but don't think there is a bluetooth module connected as I simply get a blanked out toggle when selecting bluetooth. Don't fancy paying the money for the module and nor do I want to be pulling off the facia and headunit to install.

**Edit** it's actually the phone button that brings back nothing, just mutes the radio. In settings, I also do not see the toggle for bluetooth.

For which HU?

I know there are some (aftermarket) options available, which uses the CD changer input to create an AUX (line input).

On this you can connect your phone or a bluetooth receiver.

There are also FM transmitters available with bluetooth, but if you're looking for a decent sound quality I won't recommend those. They use the FM to transmit, and besides the FM (analog radio) beeing not that great, it can also pickup other interference

And, any car nearby can tune in as well...

I have used such a CD emulator this in the past (when I still had my original steam unit) and it worked fine. There was also an USB port in it, so I could emulate a CD changer (CD1-8 was the CD1-CD8 subfolder on my stick)

I might have it somewhere in the shed, if anyone is interested let me know (altough I'm not sure if thats worth the postage to the UK)..
