First, update your VCDS version. If you're still having issues, ask rosstech :)

Do you have a genuine cable m3lm

Deleted, brain fade!

Yup, as above - is the cable genuine?

Nope, my cable is not genuine

You probably wont find many people willing to help if you're not using genuine software/cables for VCDS. I get it's not cheap and affordable to all, but if you're going to pirate it you have to accept it may not work and troubleshoot the issues without support.

What software are you using? Theres lots of working, nulled VCDS variants online but many are infected with viruses. I had to use a secondary computer to run my version due to Trojans - but it works just as well as the genuine thing.

I see you made other posts re. VCDS as well, so has it suddenly stopped working, or did you never manage to use it?

I'll go ahead and purchase a genuine cable.

Thank you!

I am using the 17.8 VCDS version. It was working okay, but recently it keeps getting me a "communication error" message. I am in a middle of retrofitting my BCM, MFSW and steering column control, folding mirrors and folding control unit.

The currently installed BCM is 1K0 937 084 and I will be installing 1K0 937 087 instead. My Gateway version is 1K0 907 530 S and I won't touch it. My window control module is attached to a motor number 1T0 959 701 M and it will be replaced by 1T0 959 701 AA and 702 S.

Thank you!

Unfortunately, at the extortionate prices they demand for one, its not quite worth it - its an absolute rip off.

In Egypt, the average monthly wage for a low skill worker is equivalent to £100 a month......

People that often pirate or use non genuine software, Never would have purchased the original software in the first place due to the cost, so companies aren't really harmed by piracy.

@OsamaAtallah Did this issue only happen after you installed one of those parts? Have you changed any software?

It might easier to find someone else with a VAG car and try it on theirs to confirm.

Not sure I'd class their prices as extortionate, certainly much cheaper than the per month licensing VAG charge for ODIS. Personally, I believe the charges are pretty fare considering the amount of work they've put into reverse engineering the VAG protocols.

Companies are harmed by piracy as they need to develop countermeasures to avoid their IP being stolen. This uses developer time which is expensive and increases the cost of future interfaces.

If you want something cheaper, carista or OBDeleven might be worth considering...

I understand your economic circumstances may make a genuine cable unaffordable. I also believe that Ross Tech should be paid for all the hard work they do for us. Other, cheaper products do exist, as mentionned above.

Was the ignition turned on when you tried to scan the car? No OBD II interface will work if the CAN bus is asleep because the ignition is turned off.

Yes, the ignition was on!

I think I got some issue with my BCM or Gateway control that I still can't find out.

Yeah, I do agree with this. Thus, I am sitting a plan to purchase a genuine cable. I think carista or OBDeleven won't worth buying because I need something more specific as I need to code new modules and upgrade software.

VCDS can't upgrade software on modules. You'd need VCP or ODIS for that.

Thank you for participation in this topic. I do agree that the cost of a genuine cable is too high, but I think I have no other choices.

The issue happened after I tried to code two new folding mirrors instead of my non-folding ones. I haven't replaced the door module for folding mirrors yet.

Btw, in Egypt, 100 L.E. can buy things equal to what 100 GBP could buy in UK, otherwise people would've died by now.

Thanks!

Thank you for pointing this out. I will do my research on that.
