Vrs turbo upgrade help please

Featured Replies

I am looking to upgrade my standard pd130 turbo, I’m looking to go to 200/220, what are my options for turbos, I don’t know a lot about them I hear that the hybrid pd150s are better but I don’t know anything, please help

Finding and fitting an uprated turbo is easy, however your standard clutch will barely hold a remapped standard turbo and the standard intercooler will not cope either so to get what you want will turn out to be very expensive.

Are you really ready to spend two and a half large on your ancient VRS?

Should of been more specific, I have a brand new intercooler ready to get on the car already mapped to about 180, and already have a smf and clutch installed.

GT1749 will give you 200 BHP, GT1752 for 220 BHP.

You have 165 BHP right now, 180 BHP is not possible on the standard turbo. A standard PD150 turbo will give you about 180 BHP.

Of course you'll need a fresh remap after fitting to suit the new turbo.

The two main turbo options for that power would be PD150 hybrid obviously and the GTB1756. The latter can go past your required power range, depends on how much money you want to spend.

Have you upgraded brakes and suspension at all?  If not that's where you need to start before adding more power than a remap.

Thank you for getting back to me, I was never sure if I was deffo on 180Bhp as I never got proof, sounds like I’ll be looking for a GTB1752, thank you I originally wanted to do it for cheap but getting carried away and just think **** it, I’ve had the suppension changed, and waiting for a big brake kit now, thanks for your help.

is there any other things anyone would recommend?

What’s a better turbo if anyone knows the GTB1752 or the 1856 ?

They're completely different, 1856 is a bit too big for your target, if you stick to 220 BHP then you won't have to change inlet and exhaust and spend a load more cash.

Okay, I know someone selling a 1856 for £550 with a manifold, is that good? Could I put it on and then map it to 220? Then I would have a bit more reliability. I have a straight through 2 1/2” pipe, what could I potentially get from the 1856 as I might go higher Bhp 220 was just a rough idea for now

You'll run into problems with the standard injectors, over 220 also brings engine reliability gremlins, £550 is great for the guy selling a secondhand turbo with a manifold you don't need, notsomuch for you.

Turbo reliability is not related to size.

Two-twenty is plenty, any more means more tyre smoke than poke and you'll start breaking stuff.

Do want this advice or not?

Thank you again, I’m not ignoring your advice just trying to understand everything, I will go for the gtb1752 just to keep it simple and reliable, thanks for your help
