traction control and the wet????

Featured Replies

Never had traction control befor so I have a question or two. I was In my vRS today and it was wet (very very wet) I booted it in first no probs but it started doing it's traction control thang (no surprise) but thyen there was like a a loud sorta knock sound so off I came from the gas and carried on thinking odd never done that before. So has anyone else noticed this????? is it normal or am I off to get my traction control sorted

Nope.. its perfectly normal.. its the EDL kicking in.. it applies the brakes to the spinning wheel to transfer drive to the other wheel..

See THIS post for some more info

Weather like this and wet junctions are one of the few times I realy miss my Impreza.

Traction control is excellent in the wet! It stops me making a complete prat of myself. :D

On my way back from Wrexham I decided to take a bend with 30mph limit (off M5 onto A30) at 65mph, which is fine in the dry... But I got all out of shape as the furby started to drift into the inside lane (I was taking the racing line) and then started to go all wobbly on me. I was forced to lift right off the throttle, take control of the slide with major steering into the corner, and then "boot" it out the bend once I'd regained control. I have the feeling if I'd been in a lesser car in the same situation I'd have been scraping some arm-co! :(

i am shocked jason i never though you would treat your dear furbie like that!

Is that a rhetorical question - like this one? rolleyes.gif

found i missed abs far more than traction control... had to revers to make it round a few of the chicanes..

but when i got a clean run and the surface water cleared I was able to keep pace with SiHortons 310bhp impreza.. in my lowly 240bhp zero driver aids chimera loan car!

althought the site of a lift off oversteering gold rover 75 is one i will cherish for the rest of my life.... :silly:

I still don't... ;)

The traction control on the girlfriend's TDci Mondeo is pretty horrible. The car eats tyres anyway (Overboost torque is 250lb/ft+ with std ECU), but when they are half worn and the roads greasy, there is no pleasure at low speeds.

It comes in with a clank and a rattle through as if the steering column has come loose (it isn't) and if you are in a hurry - like when she's late for work - it comes in in 2nd gear as well.

I've had the traction light flash 5 times since I bought the 4x4 and that just seemed to switch off the power for a split second. Wha'ts it like on the FWD vRS then ?

how does it feel to be beaten by a diesel skoda ;)

they should have paid you for cutting the grass!! - shame you didnt stick about for the 180 turns bit.. you seemed quite good at them :D

this EDL thing.. is there any restrictions on it working.. ie under a certain speed? as i had a bit of *slight* wheelspin @ the slalom today :D (pic to follow) and the EDL did naff all, dont think it even kicked in!

IIRC, EDL is only enabled at speeds below about 25MPH, because it would put too much stress on the transmission at higher speeds.

Ahh, maybe thats why it didnt help this then.... :D
