Light Weight Bonnets

Featured Replies

Any one know of any one who produces these for the Fabia, and at what sort of price.

The reason I ask is that a whole winter of bombing up and down the M55 everyday has left the bonnet looking like some one has let a 12-bore off at it and I think I'll be getting a re-spray sometime over the coming months.

That being the case thought I might as well see about getting a light weight one sprayed up (as long as the cost is reasonable) and cut down on a little weight at the same time.

Would a light weight one make any real difference? I doubt it IMO.

then why do BMW bother with light weight bonnet and boot for the csl?

;)

I'll be that bonnet weighs a fair bit tbh.

Just take the thing off, who needs them anyway

Probably wouldn't on its own, but combined with other things it would... every little helps, at the end of the day one of the best ways to increase perfomance is to shed weight - hence why the guy's on here who take their VRS's on the track take out the spare wheel, back seats etc, etc....

As Bengie rightly points out the M3 CSL demonstrates this point perfectly, its only around 20bhp up on the standard M3, yet in terms of acceleration its streets ahead due to the fact that things like the bonnet are lighter than the standard one.

Its not a mod that I would have considered at all, but I think I need to get the bonnet re-sprayed so thought it may be worth looking into if it can be done for sensible money.

the standard bonnet is quite a heavy lump of steel i think.

It is bloomin heavy (just been out side to top the washer bottle up). A very interesting debate.... but does any one know if I can source one for the Fabia and how much !!!

:orb_lol:

not only is it making the car lighter on the m3csl it also lowers the centre of gravity , doesn't the csl also have a carbon roof and boot lid ,hence less roll in the corners

besecure 2000 have carbon bonnets for various vag cars , you could ring them to see if they can source one for the fabia

Group Buy? If you find anywhere. I've been long wondering whether to attack my bonnet's belly with an angle grinder, or just source out a lightweight bonnet. Must be somewhere that could develop a carbon bonnet for the fabia. It would be a lot of dosh, but would save many kg's.

And I reckon the bonnet weighs approx 30kg. I had to remove the one off Mk1 and it needed someone pretty strong to hold it whilst I undid the last two bolts in the hinges.

Have you got a web-site or anything for these guys ??

If you go for carbon, don't paint it, keep it natural, that would look the dogs danglies.

At that price I don't think I will be. What other alternatives could be out there - (apart from Walkies suggestion  )?

Remove inner padding, and then angle grind out sections which are not of real use. ;)
