Columbus raffic Updates

Featured Replies

Where the hell do they come from?!  I was travelling back up North from Kent on Sunday evening and as I set off it warned me of two separate 4 mile traffic jams on the M25 on my route. I ignored them and  had the best M25 run I ever had without once having to slow down!  What's the point of wholly wrong information?

Where's the 'T' in 'Traffic' when you want it!!

I have to agree - although I only have Amundsen.

It’s forever trying to re-route me, but I ignore it and don’t experience any delays.

Traffic reporting system is a standard called TMC, in UK it is piggy-backed on Classic FM and unfortunately its only as good as the latest data updates and how long they are persistent/remain active - nothing to do with the Skoda head unit:

Take a look:

This is a pretty common complaint about the Columbus, and one that happens to me quite regularly. I tend to ignore the re-routing information and like others it rarely makes any meaningful difference to arrival times. In fact, over 18 months of doing 150+ motorway miles a day, my worst journey times were never more than 15 minutes worse than my best, so I never found it worth doing 30 miles of back-road driving to save 5 minutes at best. Waze and Google maps etc are obviously more accurate for live traffic updates, but for my drive they don't give a significant improvement and I prefer using the integrated unit. Horses for courses I guess.

You get proper updated traffic and road work info with Skoda Connect. After the free year runs out it costs £44 for a year. Gives you other stuff as well. Personal preference as to whether the £44 is worth it but the traffic reporting is accurate.

Does it link in with the standard Columbus sat nav automatically?

Yes it does. You need to have the phone sim in operation or tether your phone as a wifi hot spot as the car requires internet access to work.
