Oil temperature readings

Featured Replies

Just taken delivery of new 272 superb. Noticed the oil temperature dial only takes about 60 seconds to get to the optimum “90 degree” reading which I found strange as in other cars it’s taken longer. When I look at the digital temperature reading it goes anywhere from 70 up to 107 (assume going over 90 isn’t a problem?) but the analogue dial stays at 90. Have I got a knackered dash display or am I missing something?

Think you'll find that's the water temperature gauge..... Oil temperature has to be dialled up on the maxidot type screen.

Plenty of anecdotal evidence that nowadays, the water temperature gauge is cosmetically manipulated to always display 90 deg C even though the real temperature may be something else, so that customers don't complain if it showed otherwise or changed up/down when driving.

Ah you’re right, I’m an idiot! Oil temperature hitting a max of about 110 so assume that’s nothing to worry about. Thank you!
