PC won't connect to wireless network

Featured Replies

I'm sure I have everything setup fine on the hardware side.

I can't get one PC to link to my livebox through the USB Belkin adaptor. It says its connected fine, as normal, but its not being assigned an I.P address and nothing I can do will make it connect properly.

My 2 machines up here connect via I.Ps assigned by DHCP as usual, but not the one downstairs. Am I doing something wrong? Ta

have you tried simply assigning a static IP for the one machine thats giving you trouble??

are you using WPA/WEP/Mac filtering or something and forgot to add the password or mac address to the filter?

What happens if you manually give the PC a valid IP address (same subnet, DNS and Gateway but, obviously, unused)?

woohoo i won for once :D

and i gave the same advice :D

Not tried any of the above, but the Belkin Wireless Utility is supposed to do all this, and when I hit connect on it, it says its connected to the network at 48mbps (or whatever) but its still not done the I.P bit (either brings up No Valid I.P, or does a private network - both of which don't work)

The software uses a very long WEP key on the livebox to connect. It has been put in correctly. ;)

you need to make sure you are using exactly the same security settings on everything and that all passwords are correct.

try setting a static J, this may cure the problem.

set it just outside the dhcp range and get the other details needed from the router, the subnet mask should be 255.255.255.0(i think) and the gateway address should be the IP address you use to access your router, i think the DNS address is the same as your gateway address in this case.

and by "livebox" do you mean your router?

How many devices have you got connected in total or have connected in the past, maybe you have runout of IP address leases. Have a look at the router DHCP settings and leases to see if you have used them all up.

I didn't think the livebox had a limit to the number of wireless systems able to hook up. I'll look into that one. :)

Had the same sort of thing on a netgear and a firmware update seemed to cure it

have you changed any of the encryption/security settings on the livebox? is the encryption key still set to whatever it was when the unit was shipped? if you're conecting to the network, but being able to access it, it sounds like the WEP/WPA is causing your issue.

try removing your security, and then adding it back bit by bit until you find what's causing the problem and sort it out

Have you tried altering the PHP script on the My SQL side of things? Maybe you should check the virtual database on the framework IP. Apache Protocol servers are usually at fault, i find anyway, so check that too!

Oh nearly forgot, if your using a peer to peer system using a USB 10/100 connection, XHTML can help, I've used it, it does the trick!

Other than that I don't think, I can help much more.

Chirs ;)

It's working now.

Classic balls-up. Probably a "O" put in when it was meant to be a "0"

Anyway - Its back on DHCP assigned. Figured I may as well try and reinput the WEP key after the mention of encryption above.
