Rear map reading lights won’t switch off!

Featured Replies

I picked up my Superb yesterday and one thing I’ve noticed is that the rear map lights won’t turn off.  The switches don’t switch them off when they are fully out, regardless of whether the front map lights are on or off.   This is with all doors closed and when driving, very distracting at night!

They switch off when locking the car and walking away (they fade out) and also when the switch on each light is about half way through its travel, momentarily, but when I let the switch fully out it comes back on.

Has anyone else encountered this issue?   It’s a 2016 Estate with no pano roof.   I removed the light unit as it’s driving me mad, photo of it attached.

I'm thinking it’s simply a faulty switch.  There’s nothing in the lighting settings that covers it.   It should be covered under the warranty I have on the car when I bought it I believe.

Turn the switch at the front near the SOS button, off, it overrides the rear switches (I think) so they all have to be off

Thanks, I think I’ve tried that but will do so again tomorrow.

So from my understanding, for auto operation, from the first diagram, switch A needs to be on (in) and switch B needs to be off (out)?   And then both switches in the rear off (out)?

Yes, and of course doors closed. They will turn off after several seconds or when the ignition is turned on.

When I first picked my new Superb up, I had the same problem for a few hours before the penny dropped that the driver can switch the rear lights on (B).

Thanks, I’ll give it another go, I’m pretty sure I’ve done that but I’ll try again!

when i test drove the Superb, i remember the dealer saying that someimes the car will "choose" to turn on the rear lights as ambient lighting, on its own accord, depending on lighting and driving conditions.

maybe its doing this?

i haven't noticed this on my car yet

Update - I’ve now realised that the interior light switches are ON when in the OUT position, which seems very counter-intuitive.    That’s what I was doing wrong......all now working perfectly in auto mode.  Thanks for your help xman.

Thanks also from me. I had this problem for the last few weeks since we had visitors and I guessed something had changed but didn't know what. All solved now. Many thanks.
