Chassis torționari stiffness

Featured Replies

What sort of driving do you do that you can even feel that!?

Sportline has a lower ride height and I presume stiffer springs and hopefully dampers tuned to suit.

What do you compare the superb against??

The superb is a large car, its not going to handle and corner like a impreza.

I have DCC on my 1.4 SEL 235 45 18 tyres P7

Was being hassled for 10+ min by a large Polish van pushing up to a few cm up my backside on a motorway in a 50 mph camera zone. In a final fit of anger I threw the wheel left to dive into another lane. To my amazement the car moved sharply left, maintained horizontal attitude with no roll or pitch or overshoot at all and one second later in next lane, in a very calm unfussed manner.  Thought, wow, DCC is really good. It was in Normal mode.

Yes , I know I shouldn't have lost my temper, but this idiot was taking the p+ss in a very dangerous way.

@xman it was just admiring your butt up close! Sexy!

So nobody has done anything similar...

Ok...

You’d be wasting money on that kind of engineering. It’s a cheap volume production machine, way more flexible than a serious performance vehicle and nothing like a track chassis. Too many openings, structures which are designed to give way in impact and suspension which flops all over the place on a track, i.e., a road car.

Seam weld it, put in some cross braces and a roll cage, add some rose joints and adjustable shocks...then post some pics!

Utterly utopia...not worth it in any shape or form

But some underbody brace should help, right?

Have you purchased the wrong car?

For sure!

Very rarely worth it unless you do regular track days, and works better if it’s part of a package of mods (which I guess is what Hardrace offers). But not at all if your car’s on a lease or PCP.

Honestly - the loads you’d put through it on the road aren’t steep enough.

Bracing helps only if it starts off as jelly. As it stands, the superb is a totally fine road car. I still don't get how you arrive at the conclusion that it's too soft chassis wise @gigolea what sort of road in hell do you drive on?

I drive regularly on twisty mountain roads, ondulated / bumbpy roads, i Take long drives on coastlines roads.

That’s why I needed the 4x4.

Also i LOVE some speed throug the turns.

So probably whenwillilearn is right....I bought the wrong car.

But as I am stuck with it for the next 4 years, I thought I Could do something about it.

And anyway...who testdrives on twisty roads before buying a new car? I certainly Could not.

+1

If I was buying a car knowing I would be driving mountain passes/twisty roads regularly then I would have at very least took a test drive in those environments. Did you?

Why not trade your car in for something more suitable for your needs. Its probably cheaper and more effective than bodging your car with expensive mods that may or may not work. If you really still want a Superb, go for a Sportline with DCC and 19 inch wheels.

And test drive it properly before buying!

What brand of polish was the van advertising? Was it Autoglym or Simonez?

Why not trade your car

glad for you are that rich to sell car for half of it's price after 3 years paing 580 euros/m

and then continue to pay another year for some new car and sold one
bought this car for 6-9 years

and yes, my also has DCC with 17" alloys, where front shock absorbers were replaced on 42; 47 kKm (left; right)

That's cars for you! An expensive toy, especially when they go wrong. But then you know that.

All those mods don't look cheap either. And fitting them would devalue the car further ;)

Mine a sportline petrol 220 tsi which has the lowered suspension does not handle well for your reference, and it sits on 19“ wheels.

This is a large car with large overhangs at the rear. It wallows and rolls in corners. It simply has to much mass to be nimble?  One could argue it handles as well if not better than some comfortable large cars but it's all subjective. IMHO it handles not better than a basic Ford focus.

Maybe your car has structural problems you are not aware of?

Its widely accepted that the Ford Focus is the best handling car in its class! So any comparison must be high praise?

Who buys a Superb and then installs a rear chassis brace, reducing its practicality at the same time?:wondering:
