Haldex oil and filter change

Featured Replies

I have a 2014 skoda Superb 2.0 auto 4x4 l+k which has done 45500 miles, I have been informed that I need to have the haldex clutch oil and filter changed at a cost of £180.00!!! I had the DSG oil and filter changed at 35000 miles at the same dealer at a cost of £90.00

Am I being ripped off?

How long ago was that? Yes I would ask them to check their records and ask why so soon, mileage wise that is and how on earth it now costs so much.

I would say that was a fair price.  The parts alone are around £60.  Haldex and DSG are completely separate items.

I would also ask them to drop the Haldex pump while on the ramp to clear the filter gauze on the end of the pump, otherwise its pointless doing the oil and Haldex filter.

If the pump gauze is clogged its only a matter of time before it burns out.

I have a 2014 4x4 with Gen 4 haldex and wasn't so lucky last year, 40K miles and the pump failed, despite Skoda scheduled Haldex servicing......:wall:

Pump cost me £200+ installation by an independant.......I will now be doing a Haldex service annually with filter and oil as I believe that is the only sure way to keep it healthy.

Skoda UK have under fixed servicing cost at £69 for the Haldex.   (participating dealers, etc etc,  )

Just be sure the filter is changed when there is ones and ask why it was not included at £69.

Service Guidelines in @3 years / 30,000 miles or sooner.

DSG under the Fixed Price offer is £179. Service Schedule is @ 40,000 miles

Dealership staff and not knowing arse from elbow comes to mind.

Thanks for the responses, I have had a number of issues with the dealer- they said there was no filter in the haldex clutch.

with regards to skoda fixed price when I showed them to the ‘official’ skoda dealer I was told that it is only on certain vehicles and it wa a special from skoda and it didn’t apply to my vehicle.

when i purchased the vehicle from new I took out a service plan and I am locked into this dealer, but after the final service I will be going elsewhere!!!

I asked my dealer about this and sat down with the Parts guy who brought up the parts list and diagram for the Haldex unit on his PC.  The filter is not shown or recognised on Skoda's system so it won't be done as they have no code to order the part.  The only way would be to get a filter yourself and see if you can persuade the dealer to change it out at the same time, otherwise all they do is change the oil, they don't even remove the pump and clean the gauze.  They may not be willing to fit a part not supplied by Skoda....that was the party line at my dealer...and ties in with the complete lack of the correct information on their parts system.

I asked around at several independents and so called VAG / Haldex specialists and quite a few were unaware of the removable filter cartridge....  Hence, why I went somewhere who knew what they were doing and supplied my own parts....  Pleased to report no further Haldex fault codes after 5 months driving.

Have a read here, it covers the subject well, and you can buy the oil and filter too.

https://www.haldexrepairs.co.uk/guide-generation-4-haldex-trouble-shooting/

It may be worth buying a filter (you will need to at some point) and present it to your dealer and ask them to change it at the same time, and clean the pump filter gauze.  Even if you have to pay another hours labour it is well worth it and it may educate your dealer as to how it should be done properly!

@SkodaSuperb14

The Fixed Price does apply to certain models.  Like Skoda models in the UK, and it is 3-10 year old cars exactly like yours.

Maybe they are not a 'Participating Dealership'   Odd that,  who are they?

You got the DSG Oil change at about the cost of materials at 10 minutes labour & not enough for 20% VAT.

I think you better find a place that knows what they are doing.

Has the Brake Fluid been changed in 2017 or 18?

So DSG done for £90 when it would be £179 under the Skoda UK Fixed Price offers,

& £180 wanted to do the Haldex where the Skoda UK fixed price offer is £69 might have some ask what actually was done for £90.

?

Do you have the Invoice and the parts showing on that invoice?

The work was carried out during my prepaid service and the invoice shows:

A 1DSG.         £89.96

Carried out DSG oil and filter change

it then has the following items:

x S02E305051C.      Filter.                           £17.79

x SG052182A2.       Gear oil.                       £85.86

P. 0530.                    N/stock engine oil.    £36.80

subtotal. £230.41

I would be wanting to know from the Workshop Manager, Master Tech or Dealer Principal why the Haldex was not done then since it was already overdue.

Also get them to check the quoted price now of £180 and what is that all about.
