Recommended Posts

Has anyone changed from 16 to 17 inch alloys and what was your driving experience/preference. VRs drivers particularly.

If you change from 205/40R17 to 205/45R16, you need to lower your tyre pressures by about 3psi to get the most benefit from the improved ride comfort. This lowering of tyre pressures is possible because of the higher load index of the 205/45R16 tyres compared to the 205/40R17 tyres. You won't notice much difference in ride comfort if you run the 205/45R16 tyres at the same tyre pressures as you used for the 205/40R17 tyres.

Tyre pressures can be set to suit the load carried, just driver passanger, then a passenger or 4 and luggage.

So set to what feels right and safe and i disagree on the 3 psi difference, and that is from the experience of using those sizes,

Dont run pressures too low if that is just to get comfort, run safe pressures.
