Tsi 190 v Tsi 180

Featured Replies

Having both a 1.4 and 2.0 petrol bears in the family, I have to say that around town there’s very little difference in them performance wise. There’s a fraction more lag on the 1.4 but it’s not worrying. On longer trips the 2.0 is an effortless cruiser coping with anything without much fuss. Fuel consumption on the 1.4 is noticeably better around town, but on longer trips there’s not much between them.

i’ve had a loner 1.5 petrol whilst the 1.4 was in for a service and didn’t find it much different performance or economy wise.

Yep. I concur. Mine is a 2.0 (180) TSi.

However, I have no experience with the 1.4 or 1.5 or the 2.0 (190) TSi, so I can't make a comparison.

How is the acceleration?

180 TSI 4x4 DSG 0-100 km/t compared to 190 TSI 4x4 DSG?

Sounds like my MY19 190 TSI, still sounds a bit ‘knocky’ under load, but under light loads it’s very quiet.

I’ve only run my one on Tesco Momentum 99 till now (4K miles) but I’ve just filled up with Shell V power and I’d swear it’s quieter / smoother. I keep thinking I’m imagining it or it’s a placebo effect. I don’t think it justifies the premium though.

When did u receive it? Got mine end of January. Anyone else with this engine that  has this sound? People look horrified at my car when i turn in on and it is cold.

I assume you only have the sound with a cold engine?

Got my one end of March, car produced end of Jan 19.

My car is always like it cold or hot, I think I’m a little paranoid about it though I’ve been in someone else’s 190 TSI and it was quieter. It sounds the same as it was at delivery mileage (6 miles), it’s not intrusive, but I’ve been in a lot quieter petrols.

I’m a very gentle driver so not user abuse! I’ll mention it when it’s in for service but I’m sure I’ll get ‘they all sound like that sir’

That is what i have been told, but dont trust it.

But the sounds in the YouTube movies i have uploaded are only there for a couple of minutes on mine.

Several octavia owners with the same engine as mine don't have the noise.

So... Bad turbo?

I don’t get much variation in noise hot or cold so it may not be the same thing you are listening for.  The car water temperature does warm up very quickly (couple of miles), though the car feels a bit jerky for the first few hundred yards.

I suppose you could get a different garage to have a listen for a second opinion. Perhaps it’s just variability in the production of these units and if it was something terminal I’m sure it’d be getting worse and they’d have to fix it then under warranty (I extended to 5 years 100k miles).

Still any unexpected noises / rattles shouldn’t but do happen on new cars and it can be very irritating, and it always seems to be hit and miss on finding and resolving them.

There may be other info on different forums for the ea888 gen 3 engine but not much on the gen 3b yet However you can scare yourselves witless reading these forums, the same as you do for googling a medical condition - you always think the worst.

good luck.

Oh no, lets hope Skoda aren't applying the same software to the WLTP-approved 2.0 TSI as they are the 1.5 TSI :o

No not to be described as kangarooing, just not as silky smooth for the first few hundred meters, and not hesitant at all when pulling away. Completely different engine to the 1.5 evo.

Its a bit quicker than the TDI Octy vRS but I don’t drive it like that, I’m looking for the better refinement.
