Tsi 190 v Tsi 180

Featured Replies

Just taken delivery of a pre registered (68) 2.0 Tsi Edition Auto (180).

Can anyone tell me the difference between the new 190 and my 180 please.

Mainly the gas particulate filter. Makes no real difference. Doubt you'd really feel the 10hp power bump either

10bhp. :D

Oh, and a GPF (Gasoline Particulate Filter) and ECM software configured for the new emissions tests as opposed to the old one.

So - I am down 10bhp and a GPF - I can live with that - thanks for your replies :)

Reading reports in another forum the 190 TSI combined with the DQ381 DSG gearbox seems to be really geared to economy and is a pig to drive smoothly and having problems similar to the 1.5 TSi.

So having 10 less HP and no GPF is a real bonus.

180 ps or 190 ps Maximum PS is actually Minimum PS if you are talking the UK and never more than 3,500 ft above sea level and an ambient temp hardly ever above 35*oC or lower than -20*oC. (forget the -27*oC etc, you will be slowing down anyway...)

Ideal driving conditions and fuel.

Dyno a vehicle and the 180 and 190 ps in the papers / VIN etc might well have 200 ps or more in the real world.

  Vorsprung Durch Technik.

You can not offer Max Power / Nm Torque for global conditions / environment and not have them in ideal conditions / enviroment then have people pay taxes on the figures you give.

& if an Audi or VW says they are quicker and more economical than a Skoda or SEAT yet they are heavier, we know what is going on there.

I deliberately ordered my 1.4 TSI 150PS in March last year to ensure I got one of the last, before the 1.5 TSI 150PS was introduced. It's looking like it was a wise move.

Given what we know now about the sacrifices VAG are making to the driveability of their engines, simply to meet WLTP, then I'm fairly certain you have the better engine with the 2.0 TSI 180PS.

What about the noise in the cabin? Do you perceive the 190ps version to be louder? This version does not have anymore the sound insulation under the bonnet...(no idea why they removed it?).

Because it saved a few Euro to Skoda / VW in materials and labour and they only had getting WLTP approval in mind with any grams in weight that could be reduced.

How do you actually know which one you have? I ordered last July and because of the emissions tests etc it wasn't delivered till early Feb this year, it was apparently waiting at the docks since the 1st Oct for the new emissions certs and tests. They said this was because all new cars had to individually be tested. Obviously when I ordered it was the 180. I asked and they said it would be the 190, but I'm not convinced.

My understanding is the 190 has new particulate filters and so has the 10 extra HP in order to compensate for the power lost due to the new filters. So with this I was worried that my car would be either reduced in HP to balance out the emissions with the old filters or have the new filter applied and no extra power in order for it to pass the tests. Or as I assume the 10hp is only a engine mapping alteration it is actually a 190 now????

I know with all that crap related to the VW scandal drivers experienced differences to performance after the cars went into the garage.

Is there any reason to worry.

I know it's only 10hp but after waiting over half a year for a car with no apology and hardly any explanation or compensation the lack of clarity really annoys me.

Oli-M - I know that mine is the 180 because my order/sales invoice states ‘Model Skoda Kodiaq Edition ( 7 Seats ) 2.0 TSI 180 PS 4x4 DSG’. Perhaps you can double check this with your invoice.

Spelling error

If you’ve ordered a 2.0 TSI Kodiaq and don’t know what engine you’ve got, you should be able to tell from your V5 Document. The 180 TSI has a 170g/ km CO2 rating the 190 has 162g/km.

@sidzej the underbonnet insulation is fitted on the 190 TSI SEL I’ve picked up today (built end of Jan 19)

Very quiet and refined, looking forward to ownership.

Indeed, I've got the insulation myself too - car built in November 2018. I was surprised, as they were announcing that MY2019 won't have it...

As it's a lease I don't have the V5 to check, and all the documentation just states SEL TSI Kodiaq.

I'll check the engine compartment tomorrow.

Looks similar you think?

@Oli_M looks the same to me but I don’t know what a TSI 180 looks like.

I think there here are some online VIN decoders but I can’t say if they’re any good.

The sound proofing on my 180 TSi for comparison....

It changed after factory summer stop in week 21/22.

2018: 180 TSI

2019: 190 TSI

I see that on my ea888 gen 3.B 2.0 TSI 190 engine that Multi Point Injection (MPI) appears to have been retained, whereas on the 272 PS Superb with Gasoline Particulate Filters (GPF) the MPI injectors have been removed.

I had had a look and you can see the low pressure fuel rail and output from the fuel pump. I believe  It allows for more complete mixing at low rpm and therefore better particulate performance and has the added benefit of keeping the inlet valves clean which was an issue with earlier high mileage TSI engines without MPI.

can i ask why you chose the 1.4 over the 2.0 TSI ?

Can’t answer for @silver1011, but for me it was because I didn’t want 4x4 and after test-driving them both I didn’t feel the extra cost was worth it. If they had done a 2wd 2.0 petrol engine, then I would have considered it. But the 1.4 is more than capable and a lot less thirsty.

I drove the 1.4 expecting to be underwhelmed. I was wrong.

Fast it is not. Refined it is.

Silky smooth, eerily quiet, so easy to drive and for what we use it for the 150PS is ample for twisty A roads and 80mph motorway cruising.

Sure, it lacks torque, most noticeable on steep inclines, but nothing either a bit of patience or a down change doesn't cure.

The improved fuel economy versus the 2.0 TSI didn't really factor in our decision.

The 1.4 TSI was every bit as good as the 2.0 TSI on our test drive, and was a good chunk cheaper to boot. It's also a well proven engine reliability wise.

If I had to make the choice again I'd still likely favour the 1.4 TSI.

However things have changed, if I was buying again tomorrow, the 1.4 TSI isn't an option, and I wouldn't buy the 1.5 TSI given its issues right now, so it would probably have to be the 2.0 TSI.

I've been eyeing up the Audi A4 and have noticed they never replaced the 1.4tsi 150 with the 1.5tsi , instead the1.4TSI 150 engine was dropped and replaced with 150PS version of EA888 2.0TSI engine. Myself, I quite fancy getting one of the last of the 1.4tsi EA211 versions.
