Electric window fault

Featured Replies

Hi guys,

My wife's fabia vrs mk2 has a faulty dri ers door window. I've changed the switch but still no joy.

I've checked the fuse and they all OK. I've even unplugged the main door harness and that does nothing.

Yesterday I took a test probe to the window motor and got it to work(not for long) but the passenger side didn't work from the drivers side??

So my question (I guess) is, has anyone had a similar problem and is this a common problem with the window motor??

I'm hoping someone can help as it's doing my head in now

Check the wiring loom between door and door pillar on drivers door....pull the boot back.

To remove boot, unclip by pushing the top on the door pillar side and pull the top down / out, use a blunt tool to help if needs be.

VERY common for wires to break in there and cause many different problems.

Yer, I've done that and all seamed to be OK, however, when I tested with a test probe one of the earth's seamed to be weak.

When I get chance at the weekend I'll try and re-route the earth and see if this helps.

Our drivers side window isn't working, thankfully it's in the closed position, and the passengers side only goes all the way down from the drivers side, it can't be put back up from there.

But we're reckoning it may be to do with the door wiring loom needing replaced as we also have problems with wing mirrors and central locking. Our guess is its either broken wires or damage from water ingress as a door seal on drivers door has been letting water in for some time.

this happened to me few months ago, ive changed all the window switch and still no joy then i opened up the door handle and unplugged a plug to the motor then plugged it back in but it was very fiddly. after that it worked again. must have been a dirty connection or something so when i unplugged it then plugged it, i must have took some dirt of the connector.

I think its the motor as when I unplug it, it seams to work (without the keys in the ignition). After the car is locked and unlocked it stops.

I'm having real trouble finding a replacement motor, anyone with any recommendations would be great.

I've tried all breakers near me and no joy.

You may need to go to your local TPS store or main dealer for the part, the only breaker I know breaking a few of these is in Bradford and on eBAY.

Do you know if the motor is the same both sides? I have  a passenger side motor I could sell at a push but was planning on keeping for back up.

I would have thought eBay would have them as they usually strip down the doors an sell them bit by bit. I was lucky to find one complete, minus the mirror.

I'll have to have a look, if they are the same then I'll let you know,

Cheers.

Sorry its a bit late,

Solved the issue with this, After i got a new motor and fitted it the issue was still there. I then decided to test the wires between the door and the fuse box.

Where the door closes ( inside the rubber sleeve) there was a wire that was split. Turns out that the door harness is about 10mm too short and causes the wires to break.

Problem solved but adding wire to the harness.

Better late than never I suppose !!

I did tell you the issue 3 years ago !!
