Erratic fuel gauge

Hi Everybody,

 

I have a Mk1 2002 Fabia 1.4 16v petrol. and recently the fuel gauge has started malfunctioning, showing readings varying between full(great) and empty(not so great). 

There definitely is petrol in the tank  ..

Any ideas?

 

 

Possibly the sender unit which is attached to the pump which is accessed under the rear seat. Could also be a dodgy solder joint/connection somewhere.
