My Skoda writing off! but need to ask question

Featured Replies

My 2003 Fabia VRS 1.9 was writing off two week ago as a Polish man was not pay attended on the road he was used mobile at that time smash into the rear of my Fabia at the traffic lights. The chassis is too badly to repair, my insurance have pay me the cost of what car is worth. Yesterday at the court man was fine £300 with six point on his license!

Today I took a test driver the Blue special edition, I have notice two is different the feel of this car as my old Fabia is the gearbox ratio are different and it feel tiny more power or just me.

I was not sure which would be better? any effect the mpg and performance over the old one? my 2003 is 36mph at 1000rpm in 6th gear I was not sure if the blue edition cut or increase top gear ratio?

The only differences are cosmetic, it's just you.

But it’s known the vRS engines changed and so did the gear ratios from the ASV(forget the code) engine vs BLT. Is that what the OP has detected with an SE model ?

It's the same engine, just a different EGR system on the BLT for improved emissions.

He hasn't detected anything.

Ok so not the ASZ and BLT power difference. Some say 130 vs 150. But the gear ratios are also known to be different on the old 03-04 cars vs the later ones?  Pretty sure I read about that on here too

yeah you will notice a difference some 03 fabia vrs had a long ratio gearbox ive got a 05 asz and recently bought a car for parts that is a 03 (ASZ) has a long ratio gear box and drives completely different to my slightly newer one

Personally i much prefer the long ratio as 70 mph in 6th is 1800RPM and makes motorway journeys even more economical . theoretical top speed  is something like 165mph with the long ratio box even 1st feels slightly more meaningful.

Thanks for the info, I feel I will stick with '03 because of the gearbox ratio.

no problem pal just remember not All 03 vrs have the long ratio think its 50/50  FJW and FSM are the codes for the long ratio box think it should be on the sticker in the boot

also watch out for rusty cills on the older 03 ones although the one i bought looked horrendous it hadn't actually rusted through yet but imagine it wasn't many winters off  needing some welding !
