Nighteye H7 LED Bulbs Upgrade / Install / Fitting

Featured Replies

Hey guys, I’ve just released my first video for my YouTube channel - Nighteye H7 LED Bulbs Upgrade / Install / Fitting.

I hope you all enjoy the video and that it might go some way to help you either consider this upgrade or help you with the installation.

In the video the new drivers side lamp is aimed much higher than the left.

I don't think it would pass the MOT as it is now. And what is the cut off like with the LED bulb?

Few points:

- the beam alignment certainly needs doing

- looked like there was more glare coming off the headlight with the LED fitted

- you should mention it's not road legal in the UK

- there is a risk of damaging the BCM depending on the LED driver circuitry

Finally, the LED isn't being correctly focused by the halogen projector. This is most obvious around 9:23 as the LED hotspot appears much weaker than the halogen hotspot. This means you have much more foreground lighting rather than distance lighting, this will give you the illusion of having more light but actually reduce how far you can see...

Cheers for the pointers on this. I need to learn how to adjust the lights to get them level. I actually didnt notice to be honest with you.

You also mentioned that they are not road legal? Several people have them on the mk2 and have passed MOT ect.

There aren't currently any external retrofit LED bulbs that are road legal in the UK, as they're not type approved.

As halogen lamp optics are not designed to work with an LED bulb, some parts of the output pattern will be brighter and other parts will be dimmer. The other issue involves light scatter, which will dazzle oncoming motorists, which the driver may confuse as offering superior vision. Regardless of these technical issues, however, it still remains an offence to use LED conversion bulbs within an exterior lamp on the road.

Passing an MOT isn't a guarantee that the car is road legal.

A halogen headlamp will be E marked only for use with halogen bulbs, using any other 'light source' will fail the MOT as the 'Light source and lamp (are) not compatible'. In this instance, a ‘light source’ means any bulb, LED or other means of emitting light.
