Weird Radio Issue

Featured Replies

Twice today, I noticed that after a traffic announcement - at increased volume - the radio returned to the station I had been listening to, but the volume setting was considerably lower than it was before.

The second time it happened, I was parked, and when I turned the volume knob one click/step, the volume increased considerably to where it had been.

I’ve had the car for over two years and this is the first time it has happened, or at least it’s the first time I’ve noticed it.

Has anyone else noticed this strange phenomenon?

Did you adjust the volume when the announcement is in progress?  If you change the volume whilst a TA or Nav instruction is in progress then it adjusts the volume of that particular thing and not the radio/media.

Another thing to consider, pressing the barrel adjuster on the steering wheel mute's everything and pressing it again will return the volume to previous level.  You can scroll it up too but that starts from the lowest level,  IIRC.

Or, you just have the volumes of these things preset in the Sound Settings?  Turn on volume, announcement volume etc.  So worth checking those settings.

I've noticed this before, but only when I use the left/right to cut off the traffic message.

I may be touching the barrel at the same time . . . .

Will monitor

It happened again this morning. I had a traffic announcement, which I cancelled, followed shortly after by another, which I didn’t. After that one had finished, the volume was really low. One click on the  barrel and the volume jumped back up again.

I'm sure there's a setting or possibly a mixture of in conjunction with the TA's that stop the volume blurring loudly after a TA has finished, possibly 'maximum switch on volume' or similar.  I'll have a look in my settings later on.  Sound > Settings > Volume Settings from memory and in there should be an option.

I don’t think it’s a setting, as I haven’t changed anything and it seems to happen randomly. Also, it’s been fine for the last 26 months.

I’m not going to worry about it, as my new car should be here towards the end of April. It was supposed to be next Friday - Brexit day - (seriously), but it’s been delayed!  When I was originally given that date, I did wonder which, if either, was likely to happen.

Just an observation.

Curiously, my latest car has started exhibiting the same symptoms, six months in.
