Coolant temperatures

Featured Replies

Hi,

had the water pump on my Superb Diesel changed a week ago. Since then the coolant temp indicator moves between 80 and 90grdC depending on load. Before change of pump, for the last 80000 miles since new, the indicator moved to 90grdC and stayed at this temperature at any load.

does anyone have an opinion on this?

thanks for any reply!

That is not normal, looks like you have another issue or the new water pump is faulty

Hi SuperbTWM,

Thanks for the reply. The water pump had been changed because of a slow leak. The workshop will look at the car tomorrow, saying the thermostat may be faulty. Strange this should occur at the time when the pump was changed. Anyway, will put the outcome up on the forum!

@walterhein Is it a DSG model as they have separate thermostats that go faulty  and can cause the read out to be lower .

Also make sure it is bled completely of air as this can also happen.

Hi DEL80Y,

thanks for yr reply! Indeed, it is a DSG. Wasn't aware there is a dedicated thermostat for DSG!

yr hint of insufficient bleeding of the cooling system is very valuable, thanks!

To "walterhein" - Ask the workshop to give you back your old thermostat. If the problem is not sorted - means that your old thermostat is OK.

@walterhein

Do not let them change the main thermostat without first doing the DSG as this is the most common to fail and a very easy job to do
look at this thread a lot of people have been caught out changing the main one instead of the DSG one (Including dealerships)
Also more good reading with pictures of where it is

Hi DEL80Y,

very kind to let me know those details. Will be well prepared now when seeing the dealership tomorrow!

Will report me experience in due course!

Plus one for DSG stat. Had the same issue. Thanks to this forum, changed it myself and ordered from Autodoc.
