Back in a Fabia, quick question for owners

Featured Replies

Hiya all, I used to haunt these forums about 9 years ago when I had my mki VRS B) After 9 years with a fiesta, I purchased a 3 year old Fabia 1.2 TSI 110 a month or so back. Its my first TSI engine, and I'm loving it so far but I've noticed a bit of a strange noise... really not sure if its normal for these or not

Basically its like a rumble/grumble when pulling away with a few more revs (say leaving a junction or a hill start) right as the clutch engages until I release. I also notice it in gear in the same rev range, 1k to 1.6k in pretty much all gears if I give it some beans (I don't normally do this)

It could just be engine/exhaust noise and perfectly normal, but not sure. I suffer from anxiety issues, so its easy for me to fixate!

Quick recording outside the car:

Or from inside the cabin (when it drops to about 1.5k):

I've noticed it in a few TSI videos, like in this one as he pulls away: https://youtu.be/berH7PZ8sO4?list=PLCxaKxAkfyJ-VJl6cPOrEmlp9YLzxzdK6&t=17

Anything to worry about?

Sounds ok to me, the mk3 DSG 110 has a deeper rumble compared to the MK2 including vrs, I drive both and the noise is quite 'sporty' on the mk3

Mine isn't the DSG, manual 6 speed box (which I love) but guessing it'd sound similar still :) Engine definitely sounds a lot more throaty than the 1.2 in my old fiesta but thats no surprise!

Here's a slightly better clip of what I mean :)

Exactly the same as mine,1.2 Tsi Mk3. It's just part of the character of this delightful power plant.

Geoff.

Yes, mine does this too, i made a recent post about this too. I believe it's something to do with the way the turbo's boost is handled between 1-2k rpm.

I've managed to semi reproduce the sound by doing roughly 30-35mph in 4th gear (about 1.5-1.6k rpm), you get a nice low resonance from the engine/exhaust.

Either way i've contacted a couple of different skoda dealers who say it's just a characteristic of the engine.

On a side note, the new 1.0 TSI doesn't do it to my knowledge. There's also almost zero turbo lag on them too, they seem to have a much different intake/turbo/intercooler design.
