VRS tweaks

Featured Replies

I am coming back to owning a Octavia after my lovely 2006 L&K estate’s gearbox failed and I had to drive a inherited Ford Focus for the past 3 years. So in the next week or so I am picking up a 2016 tdi VRS estate from the dealers, I wanted to know what worthwhile mods/tweaks I can do as the car is totally standard apparently?

So far after reading the forums I have compiled a small list of relatively simple jobs;

Swap out the chrome grille surround for a black grille surround

Swap out the colour coded wing mirror caps for black wing mirror caps

Swap the small sat nav screen for a facelift Amundsen screen

Anything else worth doing?

Have a look at VCDS pinned thread.

Theres a lot that can be modified and tweaked.

Sadly I sold my VCDS cable when I got rid of my last Skoda. I am thinking about shelling out for a new cable I just need to save the pennies.......but it would be interesting to see what features just need activating in VCDS.

High beam assist is one that isn't standard on vrs's (proabably traffic sign recognition too). Can be coded due to the version of camera you have in front of the rear view mirror.  Cornering fogs is nice. Needle sweep is non-functional but a nice little tweak.

Wheel spacers to fill the arches more.  Rear-bumper-protection-boot-lip-thingy as it's an estate :)

Colour coded badges (front and rear) are a must!!!

HBA, TSR, via vcds or OBDELEVEN.

All LED indicators and side lights, led reversing lights led licence plate lights and cabin LEDs

I think the best single modification we can make is an ECU remap. I'm looking to do mine, been reading a lot the last few months.

The general consensus seems to be that there really is same/better MPG with the extra power, and that I should visit a reputable tuner with the remap tailored to my car on a rolling road.

Quotes so far have been between £350 and £400.

Best insurance quote I got was actually £10 cheaper a month than my current deal.

2 small but cheap mods are the boot rear bumper sill protector (mine is silver against black paint) and rear door sill protector plates (both bought from the local Skoda dealer and easy to fit). Think they were £58 and £25 (the pair) and are practical and enhance the look of the vehicle.

I have the dealers putting on a rear bumper protector as per the advice given and the fact my dog will most likely scratch the hell out of it along with a hard wired power supply for a dashcam.

Sadly I am still waiting to collect the car as the V5 for the car we are part exchanging is still MIA in the post.
