How bad are Pirelli P7's ?

Featured Replies

Apertures - What's your problem dude? Do you work for Skoda or Pirelli? If so, are you saying that Skoda suspension bushes wear out after only 25k miles of benign driving?
Like I said, I was there in the office when the call was made and it was on speaker phone. The fact that the distributor knew about it obviously means I'm not the only guy to experience it.

The tracking was checked immediately after replacing the tyres and was found to be well within limits.

Just because every little incident isn't reported on this website doesn't mean it hasn't happened!

You are the only person that’s complained of this issue, not a single other person.

an MOT does not check a suspension bush in that way, it checks the bare minimum ie. noisy and is it falling apart. It could still have a lot of movement and be wearing out.

I still doubt your mechanic heard any of this down the phone and if they’ve been doing it long enough they ain’t gonna ask the supplier for recommendations they’ll have they’re go to budget, mid and premium tyres to offer customers.

How and when was the tracking checked exactly? Seems odd you’ve said it’s been checked if you haven’t had any issues, why did you get it checked?

something doesn’t add up with this claim at all.

I have to support @JG671, why would he lie or make up a story? It failed the MOT at a mere 25,000 miles because of the tyre defects. I fully accept what he says

I have experienced several unexplainable incidents / strange wear with tyres, a similar circumferential delamination phenomenon on 2 sets of Goodyear efficient performance tyres where the main tread appeared to seperate from the sidewall moulding. A pair of Michelin Crossclimates that got very strange isolated patches of wear and became eccentric and very noisy. So manufacturing defects do occur even on top of the range tyres.

I don't understand the random comment about MOT bush testing, nobody mentioned bush testing as far as I read.

Its not helpful to dismiss what people say because in your opinion the problem does not exist. That is an attitude I expect only a Skoda dealer to take.

I’m not saying tyres don’t have issues of defects, I’m saying it’s not a wide spread issue to a specific type of tyre, you said it happened to you on lots of different brands and types so it does happen. But claiming it’s a common issue on a specific tyre on a specific car is far fetched in my opinion.

the P7s are **** yes and crack really bad, but I’ve never seen one do what the gent is suggesting without interference from something else causing it.

I mentioned suspension bushes because worn bushes can cause wear on tyres in weird ways, they move too much under load and cause inner edge wear, this won’t be picked up during static tests like tracking or MOTs is just what I’m trying to say.

I don’t work for any tyre companies or main dealers just been working on cars for years and if a tyre is worn to exposed cords on the inner edges only then it’s normally something that’s caused it - or it’s a rear bmw tyre and completely normal :D

all I’m saying with parts/tyres distribution people is I wouldn’t trust a thing they say, ever asked someone in euro car parts a question :D

See this very recent post

Apertures - Try reading the actual statement! Who said anything about "if a tyre is worn to exposed cords on the inner edges only".

The tyre wasn't unevenly worn, the cords weren't exposed, it simply split so deeply that, if you looked into the split, you could see the ends of broken wires.

If you refuse to believe things that you haven't personally seen then fine, but don't go around calling other people liars simply because you've never seen it!

Apologies for not reading that part, split and showing cords/wires due to perishing rather than wear.

Id personally use some Bridgestone's or Goodyear's much better quality than Pirelli.

I still stand by my word on parts/tyre suppliers though.

Oddly, just because you haven’t see it, doesn’t mean it hasn’t happened as, believe it or not, you are not the worlds leading authority on tyre wear, construction and destruction.
