Erratic rear wiper.

Hi all hope you may be able to help.

 

My 2014 Octavia Hatch has a rear wiper problem when operated whether in wipe or wash wipe it varies in the amount of wipe it will complete sometimes only a quarter wipe or maybe half but has not completed a full double wipe and return to the correct park position for a while now preferring to park on the nearside as opposed to the offside.

Not sure if it could be the relay (cannot seem to find it) or perhaps the wiper motor at fault any help or suggestions would be very appreciated many thanks in advance.

Did you ever solve this issue? Mine is doing the same, it will sometimes stop part way

Fairly common on Octavia 2 and Octavia 3

I replaced motor on Octavia 2 which was cheap from Euro Car Parts

My 2014 Octavia 3 has now developed the issue periodically so will change that too

The only issue replacing on Octavia 2 was the fiddly clips holding the lid interior trim and I guess will be same on Octavia 3

Others may have easier solutions!

Skoda (and VAG too) have yet to manage to fit a reliable rear wiper motor to any of their cars.

 

It was an issue across the MkII's entire production run, you'd have thought they'd have learnt and put a few extra Euro's into the design to improve it.

 

I see at least one VAG car a day with the rear wiper stuck at any point along it's sweep.

I've had this also, at the start of winter, really irritating when it stops in your view and is distracting.

However I found if I left it on for 10 mins or so it worked ok and parked correctly.

 

It was then a bit intermittent.

 

By the time the car happened to be in the garage and I could ask them to check it out, it wasn't doing it!  They found no fault.

 

I put it down to some bad contacts somewhere, developed over a summer of bit being used and a bit of use cleaned it up.

In my view having fully dismantled it and fixed the fault its not a poor design just what can be expected of something on a (in my case) 14 year old vehicle, normal wear and tear which can be remedied or avoided with a little elbow grease and no cost.

mine started doing it yesterday after fitting a new blade.... go figure.

The design is weak. On the hatchbacks the washer jet feed passes through the motor, the jet blocks and the pipe leaks and drowns the motor.

 

The estates with their disconnected washer feed are at least a little more reliable.
