used yeti

Featured Replies

Going to view a 2011 1.2 tsi se plus yeti with low miles tomorrow.  Any advice?........i know very little about cars tbh.  I'm taking a mate who owns a yeti and seems reasonably clued up.

The 1.2TSI pre 2012 can have an issue with the timing chain / tensioner, there is an update kit,

you want to know the service history and Warranty History.

You mean pre 2015.

I mean to 2011 late for the ones that are failing in growing numbers now. 2012 was an upgrade.

Maybe you are talking about an Engine change and the Euro 6 1.2 TSI's.  That is a different matter.

No, what I meant was ALL 1.2TSIs with chains have issues, even after the 2012 upgrade. They aren't really safe buys until they get the belt drive.

Maybe true, and after 4 or 5 years we will see if the belt drives are any better.

The 1.2TSI were discontinued after all, Chain then Belt.

We will see more and more asking about Belt replacements as Dealership call up owners saying now due at 5 years and what ever miles they say,

regardless of what VW, SKODA, SEAT or AUDI says, as they will not really know until a rise in failures..

Well, the cam transmission failures on the cars with the chain drive started within the first year and very few miles, for the unfortunate souls (quite many) that had them. I have yet to hear of a single cam transmission failure on the belt driven models!

Recently traded my old 1.4TSI-122 (with the chain) for a newer 1.4TSI-125 (with the belt). Not out of fear, the old one was running fine without scary noises - but I'd be lying if I didn't say I feel a lot more at ease now with the better engine in my car.
