CBZA oil capacity

Featured Replies

Hi,

I read that this engine (1.2 TSI) has a 3.9l oil capacity. So, when I order some oil from Opie, I receive 4l of oil but this never actually reaches the top mark when I change the oil myself, even when it has all gone in.

Does the 3.9l not include the oil filter?

It's not a particular problem since the oil level is 3/4 of the way up the stick - I'm just curious.

Cheers

Engines built up 2012 have an oil change capacity of 3.6 litres.

Engines built from 2012 have an oil change capacity of 3.9 litres.

Both include the oil filter. Measure with engine at normal operating temperature and after being stood for about 5-10 minutes, car must be level.

FYI both engine variants have a dry (initial) fill capacity of approx 0.5 litres more IIRC , but not relevant here.

Unusual if 4 litres doesnt take it to the max mark. Either the can didn't contain 4 litres, or you are measuring wrong (see above). Did you fully push the dipstick home when measuring?

Hi Xman,

I've changed the oil twice now with Castrol LL 507 spec (4l) from Opie (and a Mahle filter). Both times, the oil level has reached the same level on the stick (on level ground, engine oil warm but left for a few mins). I can't believe that I don't push the stick all the way home consistently in all this time (I check oil about every 2 weeks) so either Castrol consistently underfill their containers  or there is something consistently blocking the stick getting pushed fully home or...the oil capacity on this engine is more than usual for some reason (bigger capacity filter?)

The car hasn't used any oil since we've owned it and certainly not any since the last change about 8 months ago.

Have you changed oil on this engine type with 4l and saw it go to the top mark ?

Should I be worried?

Cheers.

I have two cars with this engine 2011 octavia and 2013 fabia, done many changes.

I drain from the sump plug with drivers front slightly jacked so I can easily slide a bowl under to catch the oil. Also more oil comes out. Mann oil filter W712/94. Drain plug out first, then remove oil filter, clean oil filter housing removing the bit of oil there and check old seal not left behind. Fit new filter. Refit plug. Refill. Generally done in 10 minutes, I don't wait for all the dripping to stop, pointless imo.

Never got more than 3.6/3.9 litres in to top of hatched area. Often up to 0.3 litres less. Measured using the marks on the sides of the 5 litre oil can, so quite rough.

Maybe your Mahle filter is larger than the OE/Mann.

How do you drain the oil, plug or suck it out?

CBZA from June 2011 3.9 litres.

Check the oil stone cold on the flat, or as it should be @Normal Operating temperature on the flat.

(Cold checks in a Fabia Mk2 manual are for 1.2 44Kw engines only.)

Skoda have 'warm' in Owners manuals and VW, SEAT , AUDI for the same engines say 'Hot' or at operating temperature or Normal Operating temperature.

That is above 80*oc,  ie more than 'warm'.

(see bottom attachment 'warm',  Skoda accepted years ago that was an error, and yet never changed it to the same as other VW Group brands.)

Thanks for this. Answers my recent post.

I reckon I drained more than might be considered normal, as I jacked up the driver's side quite high before draining the oil. Never heard of a service fill level and a dry fill level before, but considering the above it would easily answer why my oil level is only half way up the dipstick.
