Super-Faulty Columbus please help!

Featured Replies

Hi all

went for a drive the other day, everything was working perfectly. Parked up, went in a cafe and walked the dogs, got back and the Columbus unit was doing this:

Any ideas? It’s booked in tomorrow but the warranty is about to run out and I suspect they might try and charge me for whatever is wrong.

Its as if the Bluetooth module and hard drive have been disconnected or corrupted somehow.

Thanks

First try a hard reset. Press and hold the power button for about 15 seconds. Then turn it back on.

Hey @drewellis with regards to warranty even on its last day if its a manufacturing defect it will be covered.  1st day or last day of warranty... Makes no difference....  One thing to check, make sure the job card you sign has the job date which clearly shows your car was booked in before the warranty runs out.  So if they have to order parts etc, and you get it replaced/fixed after your warranty runs out, you are covered.

Check the date and time on the system, in particular the year.

Looks like activation codes have expired or corrupted, not sure where they are stored though but could be on the HDD.

I tried this, even disconnected the battery for 10mins.

This was exactly my thinking too

When I went in to the dealership I was worried I’d hit a bad pothole or something but she said the HDDs are suspended in such a way that even a bad crash wouldn’t disturb it. I’ve also seen a few threads about replacing the internal HDD with a bigger SSD for media storage etc. They come with a separate bracket for securing in place. Seeing this made me think they might fail often

Thanks for the info and tips all, the dealership took a backup of my configuration and settings, reset everything to factory and wiped the drive, then loaded the drive with clean software and recovered my data.

Pretty impressed!

But what caused it I asked...

They had absolutely no idea.
