Is it possible to get power for a dashcam from the front dome light?

Featured Replies

Hi Guys,

is there anybody there that has the Kodiaq wiring diagram to understand if possible to power on a dashcam taking the 12v from the front dome light?

The interior lights are permanent live, meaning the dash cam would remain permanently on.

You'd be better off routing the wire down into the fusebox behind the glovebox, it's not a difficult job...

Yes, however it's Terminal 30 which is not switched with the ignition so it'd be powered all the time.

You want a connection from Terminal 15 which is switched.  This is easily accessible from the fuse panel inside the car.

If the dashcam has the possibility to record when the car is parked and movement is sensed, it is mandatory to connect it to a permanent live (30) terminal.

@RicardoM, yes I agree, my idea is to power on a a power bank (that must have the posssibility of providing power while charging) and the powerbank will power the dash cam, there is space

inside the head light for it. Strating fronm there a micro-usb cable of 50 cm will be sufficient to go to teh dash cam and you can adapt and replace easily when you change model.

I don't find necessary to use a power bank. Normally a dashcam draws very little current in standby. You can leave it on for a week easily.

I would have to agree about the current draw and if you want to be extra safe just add a 100ma fuse in series

Guys , sorry to hijack this thread but I'm having a problem with no interior lights . I've checked fuse to no avail and checked for errors . I get 00059 terminal 30 error .

Any idea how I go about fixing this ??

Thanks in advance .

How old is your Kodiaq, isn't it still under warranty?
