Mk1 vrs tyre sizing (Octavia spiders)

Featured Replies

Anyone know if you can run 215/45/17’s on a mk1 vrs or do they have to be 205/40/17

@Jack66vrs

This is the Fabia 1 forum! But, since I'm here anyway, you'd want the same or smaller aspect ratio on a wider tyre to retain a legal rolling radius and hence speedometer calibration.

Sorry mate I’m new to this only just set it up

Bit hard to explain but...

I’ve bought a set of 17” Octavia vrs whels but they came with odd sized tyres.

2 tyres have 215/45/17 and the other 2 have 205/40/17 tyres on them.

I wanted to keep the 215/45 size all round so I was going to have the 205/40’s swapped for the 215/45 so they are the same front and back.

This was due to the 215/45 tyres having the best amount of tread depth meaning I would only have to buy 2 tyres.

but everyone I’ve asked said it can’t be done they have to be 205/45 but never gave a reason.

Looks like I’m going to have to buy a full set of 205/40/17 rather then just 2  215/45/17

Yes you are, the 215/45 are sized for the Golf platform the Octavia is based upon, they're too big for the Polo platform on which the Fabia is based.

@Jack66vrs - They're only golden, not crystal! ;)  So I have 2 data points, the forum name and the statement about what wheels you have. 205s are the widest tyres that fit on a Fabia without lip rolling (and/or arch pulling), but 225s fit on an Octavia.

These are reasons for filling in the Location and Car fields in your profile; they mean we can help you more and faster.

Spiders on 215’s will fit without arch pulling, but will rub on the arch liner.

Edit: I had 215 / 40’s that did this
