Removing rear door cards guide?

Featured Replies

I've tried the search but to no avail, so is there a guide on how to remove the rear door cards and re-seal the door panel?

I'm sure I've seen it somewhere, but the search hasn't thrown anything up.

The torrential rain at Weston and flooded M4 on the way home (thanks Tigger :D ) has revealed both rear doors are leaking in the ussual fashion and as I can't get to the dealers for a few weeks I thought I'd size the job up myself first.

Any pointers and help greatly received. :)

Haven't got a guide, but these two pics from my retrim might help locate the fasteners:

Its easy peasy rich. Pretty much the same as the front door card. See guide HERE

However, I thought the leaky doors were due to seals, and not the door card/skin thing?

you've got remove the door trim to access the seal , the seal being between inner door plate which has the regulator attached to it and the actual door frame itself . the seal is a thin foam bead which is not to good , i wouldn't recommend you drill the rivets out of the inner panel to fix the leak just dry the inner panel edge as best you can then apply silicon sealant around lower half of panel , a dry day may help

Sticking sealant over the carrier doesnt normally work, best way to seal them I find is to take them off, clean off the foam seal, then apply sealer and refit so the sealer is between the door and the carrier.

i agree to do it properly you would take the inner panels off but if you've got no access to an air drill and sharp drill bit(s) its going to be a pain , i did mine at home and thought the rear panels were bolted on like the fronts ,not ,so mine got cocked up so to speak which i'm not usually in the habit of doing

Thanks for the help so far Guys, door card is now removed. It ain't half stuck on well, but perseverance paid off and water tracks are clearly visible where the foam seal is leaking. You can press the alluminium panel and squeeze even more water out of it, Great design

As a footnote, when you're out getting your new rivets to reattach the panel, you might like to get half a dozen new trim clips aswell as they seem loose at least part of the flange where they clip into the door card.

Ross, do I need to completely remove the existing foam seal?

Are the rivets something that the Dealers keep or shall I just go to the hardware shop?

Get the right rivets, they are designed to break off at the correct torque for the panel to seal correctly.

And yes I'd remove all of the foam.

Cheers Ross, Speedy service, as ever.

I'd get the right rivets... only a few pence each from Skoda  However, you might want quite a beefy rivet gun, a normal hand squeeze jobby will kill you. :P

Kinda. Ross did mine for me, but was in pain at just the thought of using regular rivetters. A consortinered (sp?) one is just the trick.

And I take offence to that comment, I bodge nothing ;)

concertina:rolleyes:

One last question. What sealant did you guys use. Is silicon sealant from B&Q o.k.?

Sorry - coming late to this thread - there's pictures of the inside of both door cards at http://www.fabiavrs.info/
