DQ380 7-Speed TCU Tuning

Featured Replies

Has anyone on this forum invested in TCU tuning for the DQ380 7 speed in the RS245?

Apparently TVS and Unitronic are the only ones who have come out with a TCU tune, APR and Revo still aren't out.

I know there's the TCU+ from DTUK (damn that's a lot of acronyms) but it doesn't adjust shift points, rev limit, launch control program and other such things which I would like.

I also have a funny feeling it doesn't increase clamping pressure, I can't imagine being able to adjust that without cracking the TCU (which the TCU+ doesn't)

I'd be keen to know if anyone has done it or heard of anyone who has?

What a great forum! The silence is deafening. I've booked in for a custom TC tune at a local tuner so I'll report back for posterity

Nobody is brave enough to do this under warranty to a quite new piece of gearbox.

I have a tuned dq200 and i 100%recomend it. And I only believe the TVS tune, since everything can be custom specified.

The level of impatient is borderline obnoxious ;)

Bearing in mind that this is a relatively new car/gearbox you're talking about, it's unlikely there are masses of them around with users on this forum.

I see you're on the other side of the planet so assuming you don't believe the earth is flat you posted on a UK based forum in the middle of the working day and then chased up in the middle of the night.......

Anyway, as above a lot of cars with this gearbox are likely to be in warranty and it could work out expensive for anyone willing to make modifications like this.

I'm sure if anyone else has had this tuning done they'll be along to share their experience of it :)

I read a thread where someone had this done, but the tuning made almost no difference. On asking about it he was told they are not able to change much because of the way the DSG interacts with the engine controller.

Good luck.

Have done it with DTUK tuning.

It not a big difference in day to day runs, but when you push the car you notice a difference in how quick the gear shifts, especially down shifts are better.

Pretty sure racingline performance have TCU software for DQ250 and DQ380/381

Good to know, does it still slur between gears a lot? Mine does it a lot under full throttle

Sorry. Didn't mean to come across like that.

Should have gone for a manual when it was an option.

Manual 245 no longer available in Aus :crying:

Up shifts i haven't had a problem with, but I do sport when pushing the car. It's the down shifts that have taken forever to complete.

In normal runs I never floor it.

Or do you mean if it shifts between for ex 4-5-4-5 when under full throttle? If so nope.

Only thing that is a biggy still, is if you do 0-60 mph, it doesn't do a good shift between 1->2 Not even if put in manual. Need to take it a bit easy on that shift. No change from before the tuning.

Yeah I meant upshifts at full throttle in manual mode, like this. The old 6 speed snaps in to the next gear but this sort of slips the clutches and you can definitely feel the power drop off. I wonder if yours still shifts like that?

It's natural that the power drops, it's how an engine works (RPM*T)/5252=HP
I don't feel any lack of power when I shift but I get a drop of power since the RPM drops, hence the sound change and you can see down left that the kw drops from 180 to 155 or so. But the gear is fully engaged it's no lag in the gearbox.

I should go higher in RPM on the gears then the lack of HP is not that evident, but then I couldn't show you the same behavior in the sound.

File is to big so need to show You this way

Thanks very much, appreciate it. What I meant was I can feel the power being cut by the ecu as the transmission goes between gears, you can even see the boost dropping then coming back on in the JB4 logs. I'm hoping a custom tune will speed that shift right up. Thanks again.

As promised, reporting back on the DSG tune in my 2017 RS245 7 speed. Underground Performance tuned my car to Stage 2 along with their in-house developed DSG tune for the DQ380 gearbox.

Pros:

*Drive and Sport mode are now optimised, drive is much better matched to the torque curve of the engine and Sport has now got better throttle response and doesn't hang onto the gears as much. I find myself using Drive mode a lot more whereas before I was using manual mode to shift gears most of the time.

*Throttle response now much better in Manual mode.

*No more auto upshifting, it will rev to 6800rpm and stay there until you ask it to shift.

*No more auto kick-down in manual mode.

*Paddle shifters seem a bit quicker to respond

*In drive 2nd gear is held until you come to a complete stop which takes away the annoying shunting the stock gearbox does when it changes back to first.

*Launch control now has a throttle modulation type thing, almost a 2 step limiter effect that gets the turbo spinning better than before.

*Apparently the clutch clamping pressure is increased which helps with clutch life.

Cons:

*There is literally no change in shift speeds, if anything it feels slower and slurs more than before. This was the single most important thing I wanted to change about the stock DSG tune and the tuner assured me the shift speeds are increased by up to 30%. The only way you get a snappy shift is by carrying it out to over 6000rpm (as per stock tune) and this is pointless because with the new Stage 2 ECU tune the torque is starting to drop off by then. I have reached out to the tuner to see if the map can be tweaked but am yet to hear back.

Hopefully this helps anyone considering tuning their DQ380.

I have the same problem as you. When you shift from 3-4 or 4-5 gear at full throttle, for example at 4500rpm it don't snaps into next gear, but it shifts like DSG hold half clutch. When you shift above 5000rpm it snaps into next gear. It also snaps into next gear if you shift below 3000-3500rpm.

I have tuned my car at local tuner, thinking the problem is because I haven't tuned my DSG too. Than also tuned DSG to TVS engineering stage 2+ map, but the problem was not solved.

Is there anyone that has solved that problem? Is maybe problem in ECU map?
