Octavia II won’t start even after driving

Featured Replies

Hi there,

I currently own a Skoda Octavia 2.0 TDI DSG. Car is quite fine, low fuel consumption, comfy and smooth. A problem I have regularly is the DPF, which time to time turns the light on. I can say that the country I live in (Kosovo), we don’t have the best quality of diesel, even that I use Shell’s diesel and sometimes V-Power. Anyway, that’s not something to concern much. The problem that concers me is that I am getting trouble starting my car, even after I’ve driven it for a time. For example, today I drove about 15-20mins. Stopped to a local cafe, for about 1.5hrs and then got into my car. It starter all well. Drove again for about 15mins, stopped to buy something. When I got back, car won’t start. It’s like having a dead battery, as I rotate the key, it flushes the icons on the dashboard. When I get another car and start with jumpers, it turns on same as today. Got back to my home, turned it off, tried to turn it on and it worked for about 3-4 times. This problem of not turning on happens time by time (last 17February). I don’t know if I have to change the battery or the problem is anywhere else. As I know when you drive the car, the battery should be recharged so you won’t have problems of this kind.

i hope i’ve been clear enough to summarize my problem and any help would be appreciated

i will attach a link i found in youtube which is same as my problem:

It's not cranking, which points to a bad battery or problem with the starter?

On one of my old cars (not a Skoda) the contacts in the starter wore down which gave an intermittent start. I did a rebuild of the starter motor for a very small amount, about £15 I think, which cured the problem completely.

How old is the battery? Have you checked the voltage?

Hi Chrisund and thanks for the reply,

I’ve checked the starter and seems fine (according to a car mechanic), and the battery has 11.5-12V which I thinks is fine, to my knowledge. But as the mechanic said a cell of the battery is dead, and when the power cycle (somehow) stops to that particular cell, car won’t start. I will change the battery and see if the problem persists, but for that I think I have to wait because as I said problem occurs time to time.

p.s. Battery is never changed, since production date 2011. :D

I had a similar problem on one of me previous (non SKoda) cars. It turned out to be the a problem with the  battery cells. Fitted a new battery and no more problems.

Hi Graham,

Today I changed the battery with a new Vatra  one. Hopefully the problem won’t happen again.

best wishes.
