Broken valve spring

Featured Replies

My car recently broke down with EPC and Check Engine lighting up on the dashboard. It got towed to the dealership. At first they thought it was due to scored bore at cylinder 3 and in need of a new motor, but after removing the motor from the car and more diagnosis they believe it's due to a broken valve spring at cylinder 3. Has anyone had a similar experience?

The car is just over 3 years old and only 45K kms. It's been driven gently most of the time and always serviced by Skoda. The car has been faultless until now. The car is just out of warranty but the dealership has written to Skoda requesting the repair be done under goodwill (i.e. no charge to me).

Irrespective, I'm not happy that the motor has been pulled from the car - these things are never the same again after such an extensive repair. Should I be worried? I'm considering having it repaired and selling it.

It boils down to how careful and skilful the guy that's doing the job is. Past experience with dealership work range from flooded footwells due to a grommet not fitted correctly in bulkhead..... (it took me to find the problem) to engine oil covering the engine after an oil change. The cowboys are out there !

Well, just not well skilled and informed "mechanic" takes the engine out from the engine bay to remove only the engine head ...

Update

Skoda Australia has been very accommodating. Agreed to do all repairs at their cost and provided rental car. They’ve had to order parts from Europe so hoping to have mine back on the road mid to late May. A very positive customer experience and one that will likely ensure I remain a Skoda customer on the next car.

Still undecided if I will keep the car.
