Fabia VRS on 100% biodiesel

Featured Replies

Considering buying this in / making my own when I get the VRS (I can make it for about 70p a litre, tax paid, or buy it in relative bulk for about 75p (1000L)

Will it affect my warranty, will it even work?

Does anyone else use this stuff in a PD130 engine?

Cheers

Nick

IIRC Skoda advise no more than 5% bio.

oh i love the smell of chips on start up in the morning .

Nick[/quote']I've been using it in a 5 -10% blend with mineral diesel for over a year in my Fabia vRS. It has no measurable effect on performance (I tested mine before and after on a rolling road) and the engine runs quieter and smoother with the bio, with maybe a tad more MPG so in general it's good news.

A 5% blend is what is used in France in their standard pump diesel (i.e. 5% bio: 95% mineral diesel) and even the new Skodas - with "No biodiesel" stickers on the fuel flaps - have to be able to run on a 5% blend, or they couldn't be sold in France.

So far as I know, nobody has run a PD engine on a 100% blend, though I heard today of someone who had successfully used 70% bio: 30% mineral in a PD engine. Water contamination is apparently an issue at high concentrations.

Certainly on my '04 model Euro III engine, biodiesel presents no warranty problems, provided it meets the EN 14214 standard. I'm not sure how you would ensure your homebrew biodiesel would meet EN 14214, but then maybe your chemistry is better than mine!

Good luck and Google around, there is plenty of information out there.

I think they don't sell skodas in France

because last time I was there I never saw a french skoda
