Changing gearbox oil on an automatic - is it any different from a manual?

Featured Replies

Hi all,

I would like to change the gearbox oil on my 2007 6 speed 1.6FSI automatic. Its at 70,000 miles so I think it would do it good to refresh the oil.

I have changed the gearbox oil a couple of times on manual gearboxes on other cars.  There seem to be a few good guides on how to change the gearbox oil on an Octavia MK2 manual, but I cant see any specifically for an auto.  Are there any differences?

Can anyone confirm the correct oil spec?

Thanks!

Hi all,

Can anyone help me with this?

I have read a couple of pieces that suggest that if you have a non-DSG box (which I think this is?) then the oil is for life and never needs changing.

Is this correct?

How can I confirm if I have a DSG gearbox or not?

Thanks

I think a DSG will have DSG written (imprinted) on the top of the gear shift. Mine has.

You could try putting your vehicle details in your profile............you'll get more help from others if you help them help you!

Fair point :).  I have done that.

My gear shift does not have DSG, so I guess answers that question.
