Alloy wheel damage

Featured Replies

I try to look after my alloys as they can look tatty if neglected. I had two front tyres replaced and I noticed a long scratch and rim damage on one of the spokes a few weeks later but cannot prove that the damage was sustained by a careless tyre fitter. The other mystery is the swirl of scratches around the valve apertures. I have never scratched the paint when I check the tyre pressures but they grow in number after I have had a service so what does the dealer do when checking tyre pressures? Is the touch up paint available for the alloys?

@edbostan - I've never seen marks like those around valve stems before, although the tyre fitters I use always hacksaw the inside the tyre bit of the stem so they pull off easily.

As for what a garage uses, the same sort of stuff that you do, at least if you use garage airlines. Anyway, all pressure etc gets applied to the threaded part of the valve stem for checking and setting tyre pressures.

That can't be good for the valve seating, surely, can it?

Well, I've never had a problem with a stem base leak.

^^^ I have. Not sure what has caused it. Only the one tho.

They look like scratches from a hacksaw blade although there are some scratches on the wheel which has not had a tyre ever replaced. Thanks for the education. No-one cares about client's property. Is there paint available to touch in severe damage?

Paint touch up stick from Halfords or the like..........should do a reasonable job.

It will be seen though as alloys are laquered over, but you should be able to improve the appearance a bit if they bother you.

Otherwise a professional refurb required...........
