Apple CarPlay - Android Auto users.....

Featured Replies

I find the CarPlay business works very well and I'm pleased the Karoq has it fitted, however, I don't think the designers of the Skoda interior considered for one moment the ease of physical connectivity and the problem of what to do with the phone.

With a bit of dexterous skill my iphone 6 can be encouraged to go in the box but it's not doing the cable any good and the DSG lever has to be moved and if I accidentally switch on the hazards one more time..........

Can I ask members, where do you put the handset?

I picked up a cradle and mount from https://www.brodit.co.uk and used a short lightning cable from Amazon. It clips onto the centre console (no glue or screws required) and holds the phone firmly. Not cheap but works very well for me.

I also use a Brodit mount to which I have stuck a scosche magic mount. The matching magnet fits inside the phone case. I have a right angle usb adaptor for the short cable supplied with my phone which means when not in use the cover can be pulled back without having to remove the cable from the usb socket.

I bought a 90 degree USB then a short (5cm) iPhone (USB-lightning) cable and my phone sits nicely in the compartment and it closes easily with phone inside.

I guess the short iphone cable might at some point break (its a think Anker cable) due to some slight twisting but I have a spare.

Its a simple and near solution. I don't like the mount as it just looks a bit messy to me.....

It sorts the problem but I would agree iwb100, not ideal.

Such a pity that the USB socket isn't in the arm rest box as it is in my Golf.

The integrity of the cable is my main concern, even the so called 'best ones' fail in normal domestic use let alone the tight confines of what is, for intents and purposes, the Karoq ash tray....!

I'm looking at maybe securing the cable with some 3M clips and sending it around the tray edges thus avoiding the movement and stress at the car socket end, admittedly the Apple end might suffer.....what we really need is wireless 'app' connection.

WIth CarPlay, do you even need to see your phone with a mount solution? As far as I'm aware your Calls, Messages, Navigation, Spotify and even WhatsApp/Messenger works on the Car's screen so the phone isn't needed?

I think the reinforced cable (i usually go for the Anker kevlar ones) are pretty good, but not sure if they come with a 90 degree angle

Not sure if this relates to the same issue, but I've used solution one to reduce stress on some of my cables that have to operate in restricted locations;
