Wheel Alignment, wrong values used?

Featured Replies

I had two tyres fitted to to the front of my 2014 Octavia III Diesel vRS estate at the end of last week.

The tyres were installed by a mobile tyre fitted at the office where I work, and he pointed out that there was some uneven wear on the old right front tyre and suggested I get the suspension/wheel alignment checked.

I had that done today, and there were some issues (with the rear end which surprised me). However when I got home I noticed that the 'target measurements' used were listed as an "Octavia II (2004- ) : Front Wheel Drive Sport Suspension RS (2UC)"

So, was this an error when selecting the car's details, or are the details for the Octavia II and III close enough that I need not worry?

Your values look fine compared to the upper and lower reference values from when I had my VRS aligned last year. Next time I'd look to find a garage that can look up the correct car settings though :)

yep he used the wrong settings.... should have been like....

The vRS settings are different from the standard Oct III as well

God damn it! You try to be proactive and you still get it wrong.

So on a scale  of 1 to 10, is this...

1 - "Don't worry, all you do is drive up an down the M3 four times a week, it won't cause an issue, or cause your tyres to wear prematurely".

or

10 - "JESUS CHRIST! How are you not dead in a ditch already. Get it towed back there now!"

inability to construct a sentense properly.

Your scale is too large - but on a 1 - 5 i would give it a 3.

Either way, they got it wrong, it was their mistake... Why not just take it back?

Yeah, the scale was mainly for comic effect.

I took a stroll down to the tyre place, and showed him the error.

It appears that his alignment equipment doesn't have the latest cars in it's internal list, which is how he identified it as a MK2 and not the MK3 is actually is. He looked up the correct numbers and said that the front is fine, but that the rear was out, by so little as to not make a significant difference, especially if it lives on the motorway.

So, based on that I'm happier, but then this is far from my area of expertise, although still a little disappointed that my go to tyre place has out of date alignment numbers.

Personally I would of asked for my money back or at least half (& that is being more than fair) It's not your fault that the tyre place don't update their alignment machine) they should of told you this from the start rather than take your money! Let's put it another way, if you purchased out of date food from a supermarket & took it back to the store, you would expect a replacement that is in date or your money back. But if your happy then all is well
